Regehr Absent From Morning Skate

Blog: Abel to Yzerman By IwoCPO

No news on Whatmewuzzi? yet, but Bruce MacLeod reports that the Flames probably don't expect the services of Robin Regehr tonite.

Calgary defenseman Robyn Regehr did not participate in Tuesday's morning skate. That means that he's unlikely to be in the lineup tonight for Game 3. Either Andrei Zyuzin, who played in Game 1, or Mark Giordano will dress instead of Regehr.
Here's what Battle of Alberta has to say about Giordano.
Giordano can be a defensive liability, relatively speaking, but he can also launch a counterattack. And, he's shown a decent knack for getting his point shot through to the net, which is clearly a skill the Flames could use right now. Calgary could quite conceivably win the next two games while still allowing 7 GA, but scoring only 2, they cannot and will not.

Malkin Teams Up With Crosby

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

from the Globe and Mail,

Evgeni Malkin, the 20-year-old Russian who is thought to have a lock on the NHL’s rookie-of-the-year award but has been invisible in the playoffs, will play tonight with Sidney Crosby, the 19-year-old leader of the Penguins and 39-year-old veteran Mark Recchi.
It is a line Therrien has turned to before with success, and was, in fact, the combination that happened to be on the ice late in Saturday’s Game 2 when Crosby scored the winning goal in Pittsburgh’s only victory.

An OT Plan

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

from Kara Yorio of the Sporting News,

And here they come for the fifth overtime. Aren’t they warriors? Aren’t they courageous? Isn’t this the best part about the NHL playoffs?
No, no and no.
Hockey players are not warriors, and they are not courageous. They are incredibly skilled, strong-willed, athletic professionals who can make their bodies do outrageous things, such as play 140 minutes of hockey or more in a night. But they shouldn’t have to show us that mental and physical strength. It shouldn’t be allowed.

Lesswuzzi?

Blog: Abel to Yzerman By IwoCPO

Ken Kal just on WXYT. Wings take to the ice in about fifteen minutes for their morning skate.  He feels there’s a good possibility Bertuzzi plays tonite on a line with Filpulla and Franzen.  That has potential.  More as we get it.

A Little Help For The Fan 960 In Calgary

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

I have been listening to The Fan 960 in Calgary all morning just to get a feel of what is going on in Calgary.
The jocks there took a shot at the Joe Louis PA announcer because he could not pronounce the last name of Kristian Huselius.
They have no idea who that man is, so I thought I would give them a little background on Budd Lynch…

A native of Windsor, Ontario, Lynch joined the Essex Scottish Regiment of the Canadian Forces during World War II; he lost his right arm during combat.
Returning home from the war, he joined the Red Wings, with the team winning the Stanley Cup during his first season. In fact, Detroit won the Stanley Cup four times during his first five years with the club.

From TSN,

One of the NHL’s longest-serving general managers is staying on the job even longer.
The Carolina Hurricanes have given GM Jim Rutherford a five-year contract extension.
Rutherford has served as the franchise’s GM for 13 years - dating back to its time as the Hartford Whalers.

The Refs Were Right

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

from Jim Baumbach at Newsday,

Stickle agreed to talk, but you’re not going to like what he told me. “I’m happy with the job that was done tonight,” he said.
As part of his job, Stickle sits in the press box and focuses on the officials, watching every call (and non-call) live and then on the replay. He was a linesman for 27 years, so he knows penalties.
“I did that job for a long time, so I see things that could become a bone of contention and take a look at it,” Stickle said. “Sometimes we’re wrong, too. But not in these cases tonight.”

Mid-Day Reminder

Blog: Abel to Yzerman By IwoCPO

Get your nappy naps in today.  Drink your milkie milk.  Rest.  Don’t work, because it’s useless.  Don’t start drinking until at least 1500.  Don’t expect too much.  Anticipate stress tonite. Look for the “first ten minutes” of fury from the Flames.  Look for a few questionable calls.  Blah, blah, bluh-blah, blah, blah.  I’ll be out of the loop until later this afternoon, unless I hear news regarding Stillwuzzi, etc.

We Want Our HDTV

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

from TV Predictions,

With HDTV in roughly 30 million U.S. homes, shouldn’t the networks have a better handle on providing sports in high-def?
After all, we’ve all been sold that sports is the driver of High-Definition TV; that people are rushing to buy sets to watch their favorite teams in crystal-clear HD.
So why can’t we see them in high-def?!
