Update On David Booth

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

from George Richards of On Frozen Pond,

Florida Panthers winger David Booth is alert and moving after being taken off the ice on a stretcher after a hard hit to the head from Philadelphia Flyers captain Mike Richards on Saturday night.

Booth, 25, remained motionless on the ice after the dangerous hit administered by the Flyers star. Booth was taken to Pennsylvania Hospital in south Philadelphia where he was expected to remain at least until Sunday.

Team athletic trainer Steve Dischiavi rode to the hospital with Booth and will remain with him until he can return to South Florida. The Panthers boarded a jet soon after Saturday’s game.

‘‘They are doing a whole host of tests just to make sure everything is OK,’’ said general manager Randy Sexton. ‘‘I don’t know [if Booth had a concussion]. It’s too early to tell. The injury just happened. We’ll have a much clearer picture in the morning. He was moving his extremities and was awake when he left the ice.’‘

Devils Suffer Two Injuries

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

from Tom Gulitti of Fire & Ice,

It appears defenseman Paul Martin and left wing Jay Panfolfo might both be out for a while.

Pandolfo’s right shoulder popped out of the socket on a hit from behind from ex-Devil Mike Rupp in the second period of the Devils’ 4-1 win over the Penguins tonight.

Martin said his left forearm “maybe” broken after he was hit with a shot and slashed on it in the third period.

Sunday Rumors On A Saturday Night

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

from Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun at the Toronto Sun,

GMs are taking notice of the success Oilers RW Dustin Penner and C Sam Gagner are having under new coach Pat Quinn and assistant Tom Renney. Both players were in the doghouse of former coach Craig MacTavish, who was fired after eight seasons. Executives are wondering whether coaches’ messages get stale if they’re kept around too long.

Barry Trotz, who has been behind the Predators bench since 1997, could soon feel the heat with his club off to a horrible start and its top players struggling. A possible replacement if Trotz is fired could be Peter Laviolette, who was fired as Hurricanes coach last December.

Confirm or deny: The NHL will have to pay $80 million to Coyotes owner Jerry Moyes and another $22 million to former coach Wayne Gretzky if it wants to assume control of the franchise.

Lightning GM Brian Lawton could be forced to make moves to unload salary. The club is off to a decent start on the ice, however, ticket sales and revenues are down. Don’t be surprised if you start hearing the names of RW Martin St. Louis and LW Ryan Malone in trade talks.

oh yes, there is more...

Ilya Kovalchuk Injures Foot/Ankle?

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

Reports are circulating that Ilya Kovalchuk hurt his foot after taking a puck off of it, but as P.J. Stock pointed out on HNIC, it looked like he tweaked his knee or ankle on an innocent play in the corner.

He left in the first period and will not return.

Chris Chelios- Dictator

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

from Renaud Lavoie at RDS (translated),

Chris Chelios has played the elbow and stick throughout his career, but now with the Players Association NHL it seems to frighten his opponents.

The problem is that “opponents” are found in the same camp as him and do a good portion of NHLPA members who question his intentions now.

Several staff members and supporters, under cover of anonymity, say the former Canadiens defenseman took full control of the Association and he currently serves as a dictator.

The words are harsh against him, but nobody dares talk openly to the media now for fear of reprisals.

David Booth Taken Off Ice On A Stretcher

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

Mike Richards of the Flyers caught David Booth of the Panthers with his head down after Booth made a pass just over the offensive blueline.

Went frame by frame on the reply, no elbow but Booth’s head but Richard’s shoulder did connect with Booth’s head.

Richards got a five and a game misconduct.

Randy Sexton, GM of the Panthers called it a late and dirty hit during the 2nd period intermission.
