An Indefinite Suspension Without A Media Circus

Blog: The Puck Stops Here By PuckStopsHere

Mike Peca of the Columbus Blue Jackets has been suspended indefinitely for his actions in Friday night’s game where the Blue Jackets played in Dallas against the Stars.  The Blue Jackets won the game 5-4 in overtime.  In the second period, Mike Peca appears to have been tripped by Dallas forward Brenden Morrow immediately before Dallas scored to tie the game at 1-1.  This occurred during a Dallas two man advantage.  Peca was upset with the non-call of the penalty and was arguing it with referee Greg Kimmerly.  Peca grabbed Kimmerly’s arm as the referee skated away to try to argue his case.  Peca was given a 10 minute misconduct and a game misconduct for abuse of an official.  It is likely that this event will garner a 10 game suspension for Mike Peca (abuse of officials has a minimum 10 game suspension according to Rule 41, Category 2).  If that occurs, it will place Peca on the list of the longest NHL suspensions ever.  Is this one of the worst events in NHL history?

And so it begins, the endless speculation on where Peter Forsberg will play if and when he plays this season.

The Rumor Talk

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

The boys on Hockey Hot Stove on HNIC with the following:

Pierre LeBrun states the starting point for signing Zetterberg will be $8.25 million per year.

Mike Milbury mentioned Marian Gaborik talks are at a standstill.  May be an ego thing with Gaborik, the Wild make him an offer, he turns them down.  LeBrun said he will be traded “soon”, Wild won’t wait for the March 3rd trade deadline.

Pierre also mentioned Satan on the wing in Pittsburgh is not going well, so keep an eye on the Penguins getting involved in the Gaborik trade talk.

Devils Concerned About Financial Future

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

from Rich Chere of the Star-Ledger,

There are 13 Devils players who will earn $2 million or more this season. Four others will come very close to $1 million.

“We’re like anybody else. We see what is going on and understand it,” Devils captain Jamie Langenbrunner said. “It may not have a direct effect on us at this moment, but it’s not good. It’s not good for pro sports in general. People aren’t going to spend the money to go watch games.”

Certainly a guy who earns $2.8 million, as Langenbrunner does, is more concerned about investments than the average Joe.

Palace Sports & Entertainment Finances $70M For New Tampa Owners

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

from Lightning Strikes,

Palace Sports financed $70-million of team sale

Why is this interesting? Because the company that wanted so badly out of the hockey business is still so entwined, and even more deeply (about $20-million more deeply) than we originally believed. It also is in a position, though unlikely, to regain control of the team if OK Hockey cannot repay the loan.
