The radio interview is about a 1/2 hour long and of course, hockey is the topic.

Avalanche Trade Talk

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

from Adrian Dater of All Things Avs,

I believe the Avs are kicking some tires still and will make a decision on a deal or two by tomorrow morning. The obvious candidates to possibly be on the move are Liles, Salei and Svatos. TSN’s Bob McKenzie twittered that the Avs are listening to offers for Wolski, with Phoenix’s Peter Mueller being mentioned.

As bad as Wolski is playing right now – and it’s been bad -I don’t know if I’d give him up for Mueller, who has been a complete and total stiff with the Coyotes this year and pretty much has been for two solid years now, after a decent rookie year. If you think Wolski can be frustrating, Mueller is even worse. The Avs would want a reasonably high draft pick as well if such a deal were to happen, I feel confident in reporting.

I think there’s a minor chance the Avs might take a chance on Carolina’s Joe Corvo – a good power-play D-man. It’s possible the Avs might bite the bullet and sacrifice a Liles or (maybe) a Wolski for him. The thing with Corvo is, he’s in the last year of his contract and would be a rental player. The Avs would likely want a pick from Carolina, too, but Jim Rutherford doesn’t want to give up any draft picks, so I see a deal there as unlikely. I’ve heard plenty of whispers that San Jose might take a shot on Liles, with Douglas Murray possibly coming the other way, but I think it’s highly unlikely.

OK, Who Has Crosby’s Olympic Gear?

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

from Bob McKenzie of TSN, S

idney Crosby’s gear has gone missing.

The man who scored Canada’s Golden Goal to win Olympic gold in Vancouver returned home without the stick and gloves he used to score them. Maybe his helmet, too, although we’re not quite sure on that just yet.

The good news is he did get his mouthguard back.

As soon as Crosby scored the game-winning goal in overtime, Crosby’s helmet, gloves, stick and mouthguard all ended up on the ice at the national celebration began. Actually, one of this gloves ended up in the end zone mesh netting above the glass.

When all was said and done, and the yard sale was cleaned up, it was believed both of Crosby’s gloves, including the one in the mesh, were put in a bin in the Team Canada dressing room area, as well as his stick.

Evening Line

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

“I believe that it will work out and we will be back in the 16 million home that we were on in the DirecTV universe once they work this out.  And I am hopeful that the sides will work this out in advance of the playoffs. But in terms of the coverage we get and the treatment we get, we couldn’t be treated better by anybody else.”

-Gary Bettman on the Versus/Directv dispute and the Versus coverage.  More at Chicago Breaking Sport News.

Emery Done For The Season

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren released the following statement today regarding goaltender Ray Emery:

“Ray Emery will have surgery in the near future to repair his right hip. He is suffering from avascular necrosis and will have a bone graft done to alleviate his hip issues. Ray will be out for the remainder of the season.”

The surgery will be performed by Dr. David Ruch at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina. The date and time of the procedure have not yet been determined.

All Talk, No Action Yet

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

from Pierre LeBrun and Scott Burnside of ESPN,

A source told Scott Burnside on Tuesday afternoon that the Preds continue to get lots of calls on Hamhuis but were not close to a deal. Philadelphia is among the clubs interested.

Meanwhile, in Washington, a Capitals source told me Tuesday that although the team would like an upgrade “anywhere,” the feeling at this point is the team may not do anything. GM George McPhee has never been a big fan of overpaying at the trade deadline, but we’ll see this time around. The Caps have never had a better chance at a Stanley Cup than this season.

In Columbus, UFA-to-be winger Raffi Torres hadn’t found a new home yet. A Blue Jackets source said nothing was close as of Tuesday afternoon.
In Pittsburgh, the Penguins were interested in Torres or Alexei Ponikarovsky, but not Marek Svatos. All three are set to become UFAs on July 1. The prices for Torres and Ponikarovsky were still considered “too high” to one Penguins source. It’s the old chicken game all the way to Wednesday’s deadline.

Trade Talk Before The Deadline

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

All from tweets of hockey guys…

Bob McKenie,

Carolina’s Ray Whitney may not get dealt at deadline unless the L.A. King scenario gets revived. It’s his call but Pittsburgh appears out.

Toronto’s Alex Ponikarovsky likely to fetch a second-round pick and a good prospect. L.A. one of many teams interested.

Colorado’s Wojtek Wolski is in play and the Phoenix Coyotes are one team that has shown some interest.

Michael Russo,

I do believe there’s a very good chance Owen Nolan will be dealt
