Jokinen Says No To Contract Offer

Florida Panthers captain Olli Jokinen is not interested in Florida's latest contract offer of four years, $16-million. A source close to Jokinen told Sportsnet the Finnish centre will flat out turn it down. "We are in two different neighborhoods," the source said, "so it's an easy response -- no thank-you."

Naslund Out Of Olympics- Homer In

Vancouver Canucks captain Markus Naslund has opted out of the Olympics. Vancouver radio station MOJO 730 AM reported Thursday morning that Naslund will not play for Team Sweden in Torino, Italy. The decision was confirmed by the Swedish Ice Hockey Association, which named Tomas Holmstrom of the Detroit Red Wings as Naslund's replacement

Columbus Looking Ahead

Columbus Blue Jackets' general manager Doug MacLean made a curious observation last week, when he noted that as badly as things had gone for his team this season, he wouldn't trade his players, even-up, for the Minnesota Wild's — or for that matter, for the conference-leading Detroit Red Wings' either. MacLean's point was that while those teams may be better in the present, Columbus's future is brighter.read on

Nagy Out With Knee Injury

Kolzig Stays Small

Lapointe Grabs The “C”

Martin Lapointe will take over for Adrian Aucoin as the club's captain, and coach Trent Yawney slated 21-year-old rookie Corey Crawford for his first NHL start tonight against the St. Louis Blues. Lapointe will wear the "C'' on his sweater because Aucoin opted for shoulder surgery that will sideline him for the season.more
