On the Wings will be hosting the 19th Edition of the Carnival. Honoring the only #19 many Detroit fans know is the general theme. But I do wonder if people realize Paul Henderson wore #19 too!

There have been many memorable rookies in NHL history. So many, in fact, that selecting the 10 best among the Calder winners resulted in painful omissions that are sure to elicit debate. What cannot be denied is the impact some of these players had on their teams. 10. Brian Leetch, D, 1988-89, Rangers With 71 points, Leetch averaged more than one per game and, despite missing 12 matches, his 23 goals set the all-time high for a rookie defenseman. His point total is second all-time among blue-liners.

Jokinen Says No To Contract Offer

Florida Panthers captain Olli Jokinen is not interested in Florida's latest contract offer of four years, $16-million. A source close to Jokinen told Sportsnet the Finnish centre will flat out turn it down. "We are in two different neighborhoods," the source said, "so it's an easy response -- no thank-you."

Naslund Out Of Olympics- Homer In

Vancouver Canucks captain Markus Naslund has opted out of the Olympics. Vancouver radio station MOJO 730 AM reported Thursday morning that Naslund will not play for Team Sweden in Torino, Italy. The decision was confirmed by the Swedish Ice Hockey Association, which named Tomas Holmstrom of the Detroit Red Wings as Naslund's replacement

So we’ve established the 2005-06 season is the Ottawa Senators best opportunity to win the Cup since they came back into the league, and will likely be for many years to come. You want to make sure you take advantage of this, and part of that means bringing in players.

Columbus Looking Ahead

Columbus Blue Jackets' general manager Doug MacLean made a curious observation last week, when he noted that as badly as things had gone for his team this season, he wouldn't trade his players, even-up, for the Minnesota Wild's — or for that matter, for the conference-leading Detroit Red Wings' either. MacLean's point was that while those teams may be better in the present, Columbus's future is brighter.

Nagy Out With Knee Injury

Coyotes wing Ladislav Nagy has a partial tear of the meniscus in his right knee and would miss at least three to four weeks if he chooses to undergo minor surgery — a procedure that Coyotes general manager Mike Barnett called a probable scenario.

Kolzig Stays Small

Given the option, Olaf Kolzig will stick with National Hockey League-legislated smaller goalkeeper equipment when he performs for Germany at the Turin Olympics. Instead of using larger puck-stopping gear allowed by the International Ice Hockey Federation, the Washington Capitals' goaltender will opt for increased movement.

I would not go if I didn’t feel 100 percent. And then, it would not bother me. If anything was going on, I would not go. Because I know who is paying my salary and stuff, and what I have to do, and that I have a responsibility here. But if I do feel good and I do feel like it is not going to bother me, and I am fine and everything is going to be good, then I am going."

Lapointe Grabs The “C”

Martin Lapointe will take over for Adrian Aucoin as the club's captain, and coach Trent Yawney slated 21-year-old rookie Corey Crawford for his first NHL start tonight against the St. Louis Blues. Lapointe will wear the "C'' on his sweater because Aucoin opted for shoulder surgery that will sideline him for the season.
