Calgary Ready To Wing It

Blog: KK Hockey By IwoCPO

From the Calgary Sun,

Despite a 3-2 loss to the Edmonton Oilers last night in their regular-season home finale, the Flames had their playoff ticket punched for them. They clinched the spot thanks to the Nashville Predators, who beat the Colorado Avalanche earlier in the night. Still, nobody cared about backing into the playoffs. "We put ourselves in this situation and deserve to be where we are," said centre Matthew Lombardi. "We worked hard all season. "We came out strong, guys had good energy and we were excited in the room. We played well the first half of the game, we'll take that out of it and we'll move on to the next game."

What Will Lou Do

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

Coach Lamoriello faced with a tough decision tomorrow- Play Brodeur or not?
If the Islanders beat the Devils, they are in the playoffs and the Toronto Maple Leafs join the Canadiens on the golf course.
I am with Don Cherry, Lou has to play his best lineup, it is the right thing to do.

Canadiens Are Finished

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

from Habs Inside/Out,

The Habs played just well enough to lose, being dominated through much of the first period and taking some brutal penalties while trying to nurse a one-goal lead early in the third.
Undisciplined play cost them as much as anything else on this night.

The Spoiler Role

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

from Eric Duhatschek of the Globe and Mail,

Like it or not, it’s hard to lure players to Edmonton, unless they grossly overspend, which is not going to be an option, not after this year, not after banking zero dollars in playoff revenue. In the third year of the new CBA, even with the salary cap rising, more teams are going to want to stick to a budget as opposed to spending to a limit, Edmonton among them. Some teams that notoriously overspent in the past may go back to their old ways, thus making it less of an even playing field - financially if nothing else - next season.

Islanders Rooting For Leafs

Blog: KK Hockey By Paul

Islanders defeat Flyers 4-2 this afternoon, now wait for the outcome of tonight’s Habs/Leafs game.

via the AP,

If the Maple Leafs beat the Canadiens in regulation or overtime on Saturday, and the Islanders win at Atlantic Divison-champion New Jersey on Sunday, then the Islanders would be in as the No. 8 seed. The Islanders and Montreal each have 90 points, and Toronto has 89. If Montreal wins, the Islanders are eliminated because the Canadiens have more victories.

Also, the Sabres have wrapped up the President’s Trophy with a win today against the Capitals.

Holland: Zetterberg Good For Game 1

Blog: Abel to Yzerman By IwoCPO

Update 1315: Bertuzzi not in the lineup.  Mike Babcock said baseline tests after collision were “ok, but not great.”  Like Zetterberg, he’ll play Game 1.

Ken Holland, on today’s FSN pre-game, said Hank Zetterberg may not be 100 percent; but he’ll be in there for Game 1.

Against who (whom)?  Tonite Calgary plays their friends from Edmonton while Bubba visits the Dive.  Hopefully, the Oil return the favor and Bubba continues their choke job, setting up an 8-spot matchup tomorrow in Denver.
