Add the Buffalo Sabres to the long list of teams that have shown interest in unrestricted free agent Shane Doan.
Terry Bross of Lagardere Unlimited confirmed with me today that there have been discussions with Buffalo regarding his client.
“We have been in touch with the Sabres,” Bross said. “At this time, we have not narrowed the list of teams down that we will consider. I expect that might happen tomorrow.”
Bross wouldn’t elaborate on which teams are expected to make the cut, but other mainstream media reports have not mentioned the Sabres as likely to be one of Doan’s final choices.

This is how this is going to go:
1. Doan gets offers from nearly every team.
2. Some are going to be insanely high…. and long.
3. He then signs a one yr deal with Phoenix.
4. He will do this every yr until he retires because the “situation in glendale” will never “be resolved”.

Bross said that Doan won’t accept a one-year deal.

No disrespect Buffalo, I like you, but no way in hell is Doan going to upstate New York.

How would he go to UPSTATE New York? There isn’t an NHL team there.

Doan wouldn’t be considering “UPSTATE” New York when he looks at Buffalo.
It’s actually “WESTERN” New York, and yes, there is a huge difference.
Upstate has the Adirondack Mountains, as to where Western New York has the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains and, of course, 2 of the 5 Great Lakes bordering it.
Buffalo is fast becoming a Hockey Mecca now that Terry Pegula has bought the team and moved into the area. He’s spending a great deal of capital to make it so, and not just on the ice, I’m talking state of the art hotel/training facilities next door to First Niagara Center for visiting teams as well as the home team and a slew of other changes in that area.

Que sera, sera.
The only thing is seeing Bross turning this into a friggin’ circus only because the Wings expressed interest and it just skyrockets from three teams interested into fourteen. So, yeah, Bross is looking a lot like Sheehy did for Parise.
The-fuch-ever…

About The Sabres Observer
Dave Davis has covered the Buffalo Sabres for various NHL accredited websites and newspapers since 2003. He was the senior writer and Sabres correspondent for The Fourth Period, covered hockey for Western New York Sports and Leisure Magazine, and has had articles featured on NHL.com, FOX Sports, Yahoo Sports and in New York Sportscene. Sabres news and notes can be found on his Twitter page.
Davis originally garnered media attention in 2002 as leader of a lobbying campaign working in unison with potential buyer Mark Hamister attempting to secure state financing to keep the Sabres in Buffalo. In 2004, Davis was briefly back on the airwaves - this time reaching the finals of the inaugural "WGR Rookie" sports talk competition. After a few years of "syndicating" his articles on various sites, along with doing some internet radio work, Davis now devotes his new media efforts to bringing quality Sabres related opinions and content to Kukla's Korner.

Doan’s easily going to get a 4 year, $5+ mill contract. Every. Team. Wants. Him.
