PETA Feeling Fury Over Sabres’ Faux Fur

While the Sabres' ritual of giving the team's brown fur coat to their player of the game has helped lighten the mood in a tough season, a well known animal rights group was not impressed when hearing of it.

PETA has since scolded the organization and sent a nasty letter to Sabres owner Terry Pegula.

There's just one problem, though.  Apparently, the fur isn't even real.

Sabres forward Steve Ott caught wind of the criticism and responded in kind:

I received this response, when making PETA aware of Ott's comments and inquiring as to their possible failure to do some fact checking before calling out the team, from Special Projects Coordinator Amber Morasse:

That is wonderful news. If it's true, the team will have a nice box of vegan chocolates heading their way. We will be following up on our letter to Terry Pegula.  We did look into the news stories, and the fur was reported as real. To our knowledge, H&M does not make any full-length faux-fur coats for men, but we will be confirming the details with the team. We would be thrilled if the fur coat was in fact faux, and if the Sabres would like to continue the player of the game tradition, PETA would be happy to supply the team with a faux-fur coat.

I'll be honest -- I didn't know there was such a thing as vegan chocolate.  But I'm sure Bob Barker must be proud.

All “vegan” chocolate means is that the sugar used is beet sugar and not cane sugar, because most cane sugar is filtered through charcoal that might contain animal matter.

Peta is a horrible organization.

Oops, I forgot that it also means dark chocolate, because they can’t use dairy for milk chocolate either.
