Like a boxer, repeated blows to the jaw, just as Ferrence delivered to the Canadian player or the hits that Crosby, Savard and Stahl recently received, are a contributing factor to concussion. A Goalies mask or college style cage, transfers the force to the chin. Football chinstrap, similar to military helmets have shown an effect on mtbi from this mechanism. A corrective mouth guard developed for boxers, counteracting the boxers glass jaw should be mandated in cases where temporal mandibular joint dysfunction and concussion history coincide. A simple evaluation of the tmj is all that is required. http://www.mahercor.com
