Kaleta Speaks Out About Suspension

From Paul Hamilton of WGR-550,

"A lot of people are calling me scumbags, a dirty hockey player, but I play hard, I play on the edge. It doesn’t define me as a person, it defines one play that could be controversial either way, so that’s the way it is."

Oh.  Well, MY opinion is completely changed.  Kaleta is a dirty scumbag, he’s a naive, dirty scumbag.

Bah.  The “is” should be an “isn’t”.  Curse my iPhone.

There is a disconnect with these guys.  No, they probably do not kick puppies off the ice, but what they do on the ice IS WHO THEY ARE.  Your actions are who you are.  This is a concept almost entirely gone from our sports society.

Has there ever been a scumbag hockey player who had that “then I realized I had to change my game” moment after getting less than a 10-game suspension?

Kaleta has tried to change his game the past few years similar to how Matt Cooke has.  Most of his dirty hits took place during his first few seasons in the league.  Obviously, this incident is a setback in that quest.
