Follow the standings from the bottom to see which teams are in the hunt for Connor McDavid, Jack Eichel and other young future stars in what is regarded as a stacked draft class in 2015.
Teams are sorted by total points lost. So, a team with 40 points in 50 games will have a PL of 60 (60 out of a possible 100 points not earned).
These standings will be updated frequently and can be accessed through a link on the Sabres Observer page.

This is a much more interesting use of stats than I normally find in the KK blogs. Well done, and thank you.

Thanks guys. I’ll update this often and we’ll see how things develop.

If only NHL.com would list teams by % of possible points

Realizing that this is a purely academic exercise - And an interesting one, at that - kind of like those “inverted globes” that are labeled to depict Antarctica on top, I find it equally unsettling; if not downright disturbing.
In my mind, it parallels a wife’s tracking of her husband’s heart-attacks, strokes, missed medication and emergency, late-night ICU visits, with an eye towards predicting his ultimate demise and the subsequent $2 million life insurance payout.
It’s simply “not right”.
(And I write as an “ex-Sabres’ fan”, whose confidence and pride in the team was systematically corroded by The Darcy & Lindy Show - With the first seeds of contempt having been sowed by the Briere-Drury-Vanek offer-sheet fiasco; and progressing/regressing from that point.)
I have (in recent seasons) tried to watch Sabres’ games and I find them quite [fill in appropriate term of disdain] - They are without any saving grace, and I (sadly) doubt that the additions of a McDavid and/or Eichel, in spite of their being identified as so-called “generational talent”, will positively impact this (endemically dysfunctional) organization, for another 5-7 years.
Tim Murray’s shown he can tear things apart, and move pieces around (for some future value) - He has yet to show he can build anything that can win, in the “now”.
If he’s going to define his career by a strategy that models itself after a welfare recipient spending the monthly check on the Lotto? Boy-howdy, what a mess…especially if the Islanders (and the Blues) and the ping-pong balls fail to cooperate with such an inane pipe-dream.

The Oilers are just toying with the rest of the lottery group, picking up a point here and a point there with OTLs. Edmonton will keep Buffalo, Columbus and Carolina in the race, but the Oil are simply to good at tanking to lose (win?).
I can’t think of any other city that holds “draft parties”. Those of us who cheer for the Oilers have truly embraced the horror.
Thank goodness that we have a POHO that “knows a thing or two about winning”. Kevin Lowe is keeping the winning spirit alive in Edmonton… expect us to win the draft lottery.

McDavid told the fans after the game that he’d love to come to Buffalo.
Well, first things first – he’d love to play in the NHL. Whichever team drafts him, McDavid will be all smiles on draft day. But if it is Buffalo?
“The fans are incredible,” McDavid said. “For 11,000-plus to come out to watch a junior hockey game, it just kinda speaks to their love for hockey and their passion. …
“The fans in Buffalo have been great to me. If I was fortunate to play here it would be unbelievable.”
11 thou. for a junior game WOW! Our local team barely gets a few thou. most games.
Hope Sabres draft him.
