Report: Myers’ Name Is “Out There For Trade”

While it's no secret that Robyn Regehr, Jordan Leopold and Drew Stafford are being mentioned in trade talks, a report last night hinted that the Sabres could be putting a bigger name than all three of them on the block.

Ruff In Tampa Would Be Compelling

Imagine how interesting hockey life would be in Buffalo if a team coached by Lindy Ruff came into First Niagara Center - say, three weeks from today - to battle the Sabres in a game with major playoff implications.

With an opening created this morning courtesy of the Tampa Bay Lightning, that scenario may not be so far-fetched.

Morrison: Sabres Should Move On From Miller

Sportsnet's Scott Morrison has joined the ranks of those in the national media who believe that it would be best for Ryan Miller to find a new home.

"I think it's time for Ryan Miller, and I also think it's time for the Buffalo Sabres to move on from him."

Stafford Says He Hasn’t Asked For Trade

From Paul Hamilton of WGR-550,

With things just not going well here, Stafford said asking Darcy Regier to trade him isn’t in his makeup, “No, absolutely not. That’s not something that’s part of my character, I was brought up a certain way and I’m here to focus on the controllables and that’s how I’m playing. If I’m going in there and demanding this and demanding that, that’s just not the type of person I am, so I’m never going to quit no matter how bad it gets.”

Columnist: Myers’ Contract Would Be Tough To Move

So, this is how bad things have gotten for Tyler Myers: Once considered an untouchable in the Sabres organization, it's now gotten to the point where writers are lamenting that his contract has become an albatross for Darcy Regier.

Kypreos: 6 Teams Would Love To Have Miller For Stretch Run

He didn't name names, but Nick Kypreos said today that, despite what is considered to be a weak goaltending market, there would be plenty of interest in Ryan Miller if the Sabres wanted to move him.

Kaleta Furious To Be Healthy Scratch Today

From Mike Harrington of Sabres Edge blog:

Multiple observers said Kaleta was screaming his disgust on the ice during the work while reporters were in the locker room and having their pregame briefing from Rolston. And when the media got to Kaleta, he didn't hold back about the state of a team that's 13th in the East and going nowhere.

"I'm pissed off. I want to play," Kaleta said. "And especially after watching some things, sitting there watching the game, I want to play. ... I guess they don't need me right now I guess. I've been pissed off watching for the past couple weeks. No matter if you're a fan, a player, you guys know what's going on. You should be pissed off. You should play with a little piss and vinegar. You shouldn't be happy.

Timing Of Grigorenko Demotion Is No Coincidence

It certainly was a lousy PR move, much worse than the Tim Kennedy pseudocrisis a few years ago that nearly triggered an earthquake in South Buffalo.  But, contrary to the beliefs of angry Sabres fans, it wasn't a vote of confidence for other underperformers on the team.

It's likely no coincidence that yesterday was the exact day Mikhail Grigorenko was sent back to juniors.  It had little to do with wanting to keep Jochen Hecht, Jordan Leopold and John Scott when a roster move had to be made.  I believe strongly that this decision was made about a week ago, for the simple reason (other than the young Russian's poor play) that March 16th represented a deadline.

10 Reasons Why The Sabres Won’t Waive Jochen Hecht

I'm pretty confident that the Sabres would be happy to get, say, a 5th or 6th-round draft choice for Jochen Hecht on or before April 3rd.  Hey, John Scott was dealt for a 5th-rounder last season at the trade deadline, so who knows?

To all of you Sabres fans who think such a return would be worthless, and can't understand why Buffalo would demote Brian Flynn or Marcus Foligno instead of waiving Hecht, I have 10 reasons for you:
