So the key for Zetterberg is no contact for 8 weeks after surgery.

That puts the date around April 20th.

If everything goes well, probably will need a week or so of contact, assuming he is skating before the 8 week time frame.

Besides mentioning Z’s playoff beard, St. James tweeted this...

Won’t be back for #Redwings barring long playoff run

So, Pleiness suggests he’ll be back if the team makes the playoffs (i.e., basically, from the start). Paul suggests April 20 + 7 days of contact skating = April 27.

St. James: suggests it would be at the very least, 2nd round of the playoffs.

Did all these people have separate conversations?

God only knows what HSJ is talking about.  “Long playoff run”?  A few weeks ago she was the source of the “Eastern Conference Finals at best” claim when Holland was expressly saying “sometime during the first round.”  I take it she is still sandbagging.

Does she ever f*cking cite anything?  She constantly writes things with absolutely nothing whatsoever to back it up.

Well, this news is a lot better than I expected yesterday. I was pretty sure he was going to say he wouldn’t be allowed to play again this year no matter how long the Wings lasted in the playoffs.

It’s nice to be wrong for a change. smile

Wasn’t she the one who kept insisting Cleary was going to re-sign with the Wings, even though everyone railed against her and called her an idiot?

Yes.  But she also insisted the Wings would do nothing at the deadline because all the prospects were untouchable and the price was too high.

I think someone on the Wings gives her off-the-record “bad news” quotes knowing she’ll repeat them.  They don’t particularly concern themselves with whether the information they give her is accurate—they just want the bad new “out there” to tweak expectations.

IMO, it is much better to report what is actually being said than assuming, especially when it comes to a long-term injury.

But this is how stories start, TSN picks it up and says Report…

If the Detroit Red Wings make the playoffs, it appears they’ll have to do it without forward Henrik Zetterberg.

According to Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press, Zetterberg will not return to the Red Wings lineup unless the team goes deep into the playoffs.

“Won’t be back for #Redwings barring long playoff run,” St. James tweeted (@HeleneStJames).

Yesssss, and that was (supposedly) true until less than 24 hours prior to the deadline when they lost Helm and Datsyuk.

Well, I don’t think that’s exactly right—Holland said focus shifted from a defenseman to a center at that time, not that it was a foregone conclusion that they’d do nothing.

But in any event, even AFTER that news came out, HSJ doubled-down and said that without Zetterberg, Helm, and Datsyuk there was no point shooting for the playoffs.  These are her tweets immediately before the Legwand acquisition:

“Just don’t see what #RedWings can add that will make a diff. w/o Zetterberg & Datsyuk this spring. Not that will get them through Pitt/Bos.”

“Still possible #RedWings make playoffs. Have Franzen, Alfredsson, Nyquist, Tatar, Kronwall & more. Play smart, play defense. Can happen.”

She’s part of the spin effort—wittingly or not.

So what?  I’m not saying you specifically are saying this, but all in all there are a few people who comment on KK and are pissed that the reporters don’t give 100% accurate information.  All the while the Wings aren’t telling the reporters everything, and there is likely things the reporters know they shouldn’t tell everyone else.

There’s a difference between not giving 100% information and completely making up the stuff you’re reporting.
