Wings Recall Dman Alexey Marchenko

from Ansar Khan of Mlive,

The Detroit Red Wings have recalled defenseman Alexey Marchenko from the Grand Rapids Griffins. He presumably will make his NHL debut Saturday night against the Dallas Stars at the American Airlines Center (8 p.m., Fox Sports Detroit).

The Red Wings apparently have an injury on defense but general manager Ken Holland declined to reveal who, if anybody, is out.

The 6-foot-2, 212-pound right-handed shooting Marchenko has 16 points (two goals, 14 assists) in 33 games and is tied for the Griffins’ team lead with a plus-15 rating in his first AHL season.

added 10:45am, from Chuck Pleiness of Red Wings Front,

Defenseman Danny DeKeyser won’t be at practice Friday listed as day-to-day with a lower-body injury.

The injury could be a groin which means day-to-day could mean a couple of weeks.

I’m waiting for the second part of this story where we learn it is because the Detroit Red Wings have traded Kyle Quincey.

You know, Quincey has been playing much better lately
Not that it’s such a big deal, I wouldn’t be sad if they traded him, but it’s been a while since I saw one of his usual shenanigans

But Q is -14.  How do you trade that?  A few weeks ago Dallas was suffering badly for bodies on the blue line.  Thought Kenny could have moved him then.  But, clearly, he needs a new home.  He may actually be better than we are seeing, but I don’t believe he can achieve in D anymore.

Marchenko should be able to adjust pretty quickly.  Let’s hope he does.

If Kenny knew how to initiate a hockey trade Quincey would be gone.  Only way he gets traded is if someone comes looking for him.

Quincy is the worst.  I don’t care if he’s ‘playing better’ he needs to go.

Jim Nill knows Quincy. He wouldn’t want him on his team.

Unless something seriously gets leaked.. we have no idea what D man is dinged up.. or traded if that’s the case.

but since it’s this team, we should fairly assume that it is an injury and that it’s either Kronner or DDK.

Khan tweets: Wings defenseman Danny DeKeyser is out with a lower-body injury. It’s a day-to-day, believed to be a groin.

Told you

Yuk!

I believe DDK is our best defenseman… This is gonna hurt!

Three more guys out with groin problems…why does this happen so often? And that doesn’t include Zetterberg who played with a sore groin. Gustavsson, Helm and now DeKeyser.

Again, what the F is this training staff doing? I can’t believe any other team experiences so many groin injuries.

Did not Quincey deflect the puck past Howard for Toronto’s second goal of the winter classic? That’s what I thought it showed on the replay.

You gotta admit two things:

1. It’s hard to be this lucky, even if it is bad luck
2. If the hockey gods are telling Babcock to leave, you have to admire his stubbornness.

Don’t any other team losing man-games to groin injuries.  It’s astonishing.

just hold your breath and hope Marchenko fits in as well as DDK did.  Just don’t pair him with Q, or his game might vaporize before he even gets settled.

Here’s a funny thought.  Will Q be promoted to the top pairing?

Sorry, shooter, but Blabcock has paired up Marchenko with Q in this morning’s skate.
