Wings’ Morning Update

Paul here for George who is without internet access at this point in time.

Wings have an optional skate this morning and according to Ansar Khan, Franzen and Smith are skating but won't play tonight and TooToo is also on the ice.

Then this and we will get the official word on TooToo right after noon today..

I can’t imagine why anyone would want to take on his crap contract, but I really hope someone does…

I am sad that the Wings waived Toots; he brings more to the team than both Cleary and Samuelsson combined.

He really doesn’t, and he never has.  I know some of you have soft spots for fighters but… he doesn’t do a single thing that several Bottom Six guys on the roster already can’t or don’t do.

Ehhh, he does scare people, check heavy, and create broken plays in the offensive zone.  Offensively, there isn’t much, but forechecking is his strong point.

+1

Or maybe more appropriately, -22.

He puts more grit and heart into 2 minutes of play than many combined. That’s a fact. His head heart and body are always 100% into the game and team. He is one focused athlete while others are always on inured reserve or inconsistent. Jordin Tootoo is consistent. That is important in professional sports! Play him more than a minute here and there and he will rack points. Hard to do however when you don’t get play time. This pro hasn’t had good fair play since he was brought on. You can jerk a team and expect smooth sailing. Let the players PLAY. Then see what rolls out. It’s not complicated. And Jordin is no pre madonna like some others. Optional skate with his future in hold and guess who showed up to skate? TOOTOO. Get em Toots! Kick butt!  Detroit loves ya cuz you’re a true athlete. On an off the ice!  Fingers crossed! #22

Agreed!.  He does however, put the puck on net every chance he gets and plays hard every shift.  We have guys on the top lines that don’t do that consistently.  However, his skill set is not up to snuff with everyone else and his potential is well below the rest of our team.  I see why he has to go and agree he should.  That being said, I do feel bad for the guy who plays with a lot of heart when there are guys that mail it in some nights who get to stick around.  I will be glad to see the staged/meaningless fights gone.

I would be shocked to see if he got claimed…but it would be a good thing for the Wings.

and not being able to give away a player for no compensation just shows how bad of a contract it was that was signed. I didn’t mind the amount per year it was the length that was the issue.

It’s after 12:00pm Thursday…so just waiting on the official word…(and disappointment)...

If Jordin Tootoo did stuff that the stats can’t capture directly, then you should at least be able to see other stats indirectly capture this.

He didn’t.

Great attitude. Absolutely adore the guy and the way he’s cleaned up his game a lot since coming over from Nashville, but he clearly wasn’t brining more to the table than Dan Cleary and even Mikael Samuelsson at least accidentally recorded a point this season.

It’s unbelievable how much context can be ignored to make ridiculous statements.  Just say you like him more than Cleary and Samuelsson.  Let’s not try to pretend he made the Red Wings better.

And he was so valuable, when it counted most last spring he was a healthy scratch or their playoff run.

I would be curious to hear more about what offers or ideas KH threw out there. I can’t imagine any trade of Tootoo being possible without the Wings being willing to retain at least half of his cap hit. Which is basically the same savings as waiving and sending him down. So not much point to doing it.

Samuelsson plays more per game AND plays on the Power Play - of course he’s going to get more chances to get points. Cleary gets played a ridiculous amount in all situations and only has 3 points to show for it.

If you can’t see the speed and tenacity he brings on the forecheck EVERY. SHIFT. then you’re not going to be able to find any reason to want him around.

Also, back the *#$%@& off, man. I know you’ve got your own site and whatever now, but don’t think for a second you have any right to talk down to people because you don’t agree with them.

Who the *#$%@& do you think you are, HockeyinHD? *#$%@& you.
