Wings Lose Another Defenseman, White Out 2-3 Weeks

via Khan,

Detroit Red Wings defenseman Ian White had surgery this morning to repair a deep laceration in his leg and will be out for two-to-three weeks, general manager Ken Holland said.

Holland said Jakub Kindl (groin) is expected to return for Friday's game against Minnesota, so the club will not sign another defenseman or recall anybody from the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Of all the aspects of the Red Wings “game” only the injury report seems to be in mid-season form.

Huskins was fairly steady last night…second the “Does he have a brother?”

The first line of Z, Pav and Brunner was fairly steady as well.

That said…the second line is horrible…Fil has gone back into hiding again offensively…Franzen…is Franzen…William Tell is hitting glass…

The Z, Brunner and Franzen line wasn’t too bad either…but Pav pivoting Fil and…was it Nyquist? Well…being that I have to question who else was on that line says enough.

Whomever said the Wings have one First line, two Third lines and Fourth line isn’t far off.

They had better find their scoring touch up front.

Were we watching the same game fluffy?  Flip was going last night and Mule was engaged, again.  Gus seemed to try to dangle too much, too much stuff he gets away with in the AHL he can’t do here, especially entering the zone.

I was actually a little disappointed with Miller’s play last night.  I’m used to seeing him setting the tone vs. reacting and he was reacting all last night.

And Tooooooots.. did great.  Blockin shots, knocking people down, think he even got a shot or two on net.

Um…I’ll shuddap now.

FIlppula looks like he is going like hell but not being rewarded with scoring chances.  Perhaps (hopefully) that part re-materializes.

Miller, yeah - a lot of reaching and swiping with the stick rather that being engaged.  I have been watching him and wondering if he has checked out.

I DID, I DID!! THAT WAS ME!!!

Datsyuk and Filppula were with Nyquist for maybe three shifts before Cleary was plopped in there instead; Bert would be a much better option with those two if Babcock intends on keeping the BFZ line together.

Quackerjack is a soul sucking -4, while his “terrible rookie” partner Smith is only -2… seems that Smith isn’t the problem on that pairing.

Everyone on the ice gets the plus or minus, but only one can take credit for standing there with his thumb up his a**.

Very interesting Herm, I’d absolutely believe it.  I’m a huge Miller advocate but I haven’t been impressed, ESPECIALLY given how well he did with all his ice-time overseas.  Maybe he’s missing Braehead.

Oppositely I’ve been impressed with Eaves.  Picked up right where he left off.  Talk about character.

I smell a “Norrus Trophy” in someone’s future.  Wait… that’s not what I think it is?  You mean it’s for the worst D-man in the NHL?  Well then, “He’s number 1!  He’s number 1!”

I also thought Flip and Mule played well.  Flip had that shot that hit the post - best scoring chance really until Brunner’s goal.

I’m wondering about the role they are asking Mule to fill.  Back when he was scoring, scoring, scoring a few years ago, it certainly wasn’t as a net front guy.  How can he get going with that beautiful wrist shot of his if they expect him to be Homer?  I’m hoping Bert can take that role.

P.S. This injury thing is beyond ridiculous.

Quincey just isn’t very good, is he?

Does anyone miss Ericsson?

Is there another Dman in GR that could come up?

it seems like the Wings are trying to get players to fill the shoes of past players and their roles, rather than exploiting the strengths of the current players.

for example, having Franzen stand in front of the net like Homer used to.  nobody will ever do it as well as Homer did, and it’s a waste of Franzen’s talent just having him stand there.

btw, wtf was with Franzen lying on the ice next to the goal for a good 5 seconds or more?  GET THE FRICK UP AND PLAY!!

Paul, I just posted the same comment.  I don’t see Mule as a net front guy.  That is not going to get him scoring.

You are right PMB, the reason why homer was so good in front of the net was Lidstrom.

Time to change it around boys.

No question, Paul.  One reason why Homer was so good in front of the net was his chemistry with Lidstrom.  Those guys had some magic going.  There will never be another Homer.

let’s get a petition together and get Babs to have Q stand in front of the net on offense.  at least we can hope he takes a puck in the ankle or something.

is that wrong?

Part of the reason Holmstrom was so good in front of the net was because he didn’t spend half his time there using his stick trying to scratch Al the Octopus’ b-hole up in the rafters.

Simple coaching on stick positioning, skating out of the zone, how to complete 10-foot passes, and when/when not to shoot it directly at the goalie’s crest seems to be missing.

Larry Murphy couldn’t have possibly gotten slower than he already was…He’ll do. Chris Chelios has to be in good shape, too…You should see the front office. Holland’s a golfer, but Ryan Martin takes after Babcock in the fitness department, and now Jim Nill’s ran a marathon, then you’ve got Jiri Fischer (insurance would be prohibitive), Kris Draper, Kirk Maltby, Chris Osgood (who would pull his groin immediately) and Mark Howe…and Mickey Redmond in the announcer’s booth.

Where do they keep those one-day contracts?

hell gimme #16 right now over Quinkey…..............yea he was THAT good!

As far as front of the net i think you put a guy there that plays a different style than Mule. This doesnt suit Mule at all. I say put Cleary there, I’ve seen him in that spot before and he handles himself just fine. All Mule will continue to do is hurt the team by him getting 2 for every angry-baby-face-wash-im-takin-my-ball-and-goin-home mentality. Utilize him on a line where he moves and has a chance to get some momentum coming across the blue line for a play.

Cant wait for Helmer to get back in. He changes this teams dynamic so much, its ridiculous. We get him and Eaves on a rotating established forecheck and NOW you can set the tone and pace of the game. Now you can play puck posession because we have forecheckers that harass the other team coming up the ice.

Also hope we quit giving the other team a 2 goal spot night in and night out. We did it last year too if you recall.

And these special teams, sure they need fixin. I saw some great puck movement against Columbus, but we have to finish. You cant keep cyclin the puck with your back to net and score(yes i know most guys are protecting the puck in this manner). No goalie will ever need to worry if he sees your nametag during the entire PP. I think the PK can fix itself, we just have some key people that arent in the lineup.

I’m frustrated too, but alot of these things are due to lineup hiccups. Bert and Helm are big key parts in this and we are on the cusp. Hang in there!

Did this guy play anywhere during the lockout or did he just lay around his house eating pork rinds farting into his couch watching tv all day and night?

Classic dumb decision made when he poked his stick (at I think it was Ryder) just as he was shooting slightly altering the shot. That is a mistake that Don Cherry constantly brings up on Coach’s Corner. Hope he gets his head out of arse soon.

Did Carlo Cola’s long injury history get airborne and infect our team?  News at 11.

Nice signing Kenny. Carlo Glass Cola 10 cents non-refundable.

If that’s the criteria to play defense for the Wings then I’m available for league minimum (plus bonuses, of course).
