from Gregg Krupa of the Detroit News,
Amid a few months of fairly intense, self-directed workouts at local rinks, several of the Red Wings leave Sunday for Arizona, where they will work out with some of the Phoenix Coyotes and other players from around the NHL.
As they hope for an end to the owners' lockout and a settlement on a collective bargaining agreement, the Red Wings are eying the calendar, realizing there is a lot of time to be made up.
They want to be in the best condition and as well-practiced as possible before the prospective start of an abbreviated training camp leading directly into a likely 48-game schedule, that will put great demands on them.
"Me, Horc, Howie, Kroner and maybe Ericsson and Monster are going," Danny Cleary said.
Translated from players' speak, that is Cleary; Shawn Horcoff, the former Spartan and current captain of the Oilers, who works out with the Red Wings in the offseason; Jimmy Howard, Jonathan Ericsson and Jonas Gustavsson, the Wings' new backup goalie, who played for the Maple Leafs last season.
