Wings Barely Control Their Playoff Destiny

Here is how the Western Conference playoff race looks like after all the games on Sunday.

Detroit still controls their destiny, win their last four games, the next three at home against Phoenix, Los Angeles and Nashville and the last game in Dallas and they are in the playoffs.

If Detroit gets 7 out of 8 points and wins at least two game in regulation or in OT, they will also get in. At that point, if Columbus wins both of their remaining games in regulation or OT, they would be tied with Detroit in points but the Wings would have the tie-breaker in the ROW column.

After that, my brain goes number crazy, especially at 12:20am.

All I know, the playoffs just started in Detroit, 8 days early.

added 12:24am, from Ansar Khan of Mlive,

But, playing four high-intensity, pressure-filled games in six nights will be a tough task.

Monday's game is particularly challenging because the Red Wings for years have not fared well in their first game back from the West Coast, especially with just one day off in between.

They are 0-3-1 this year in the first game following a trip to the West Coast or Western Canada.

Sorry for being a cynical (but still hopeful) bastard, Paul, but the Wings this year make “easy” look waaay too difficult.

I’ll believe when I see it.

As a fan, it sure is hard to wrap my head around this excuse. Especially if they end up using it by the end of Monday night.

If they are flat again at this point in the season…the mental weakness of this team will be truly evident.

What I don’t get is how they went from 7-5-2 and only winning consecutive games in march to 3-3-3 in april. But they’ve never won more than four straight this season. There’s no better time than now to start an epic winning streak.

That means somehow learning to pass to teammates rather than in their skates, stop making so many braindead mistakes in their own zone, and actually taking the puck toward the net in the offensive zone, not to mention playing for more than 5 minutes a game in 20 second spurts. The theme is that they control their destiny; they’ve had over a month to all but guarantee a playoff spot and now find themselves on the outside looking in, having to match three other teams and win games in hand.

Look up the word ‘choke’ in the dictionary and the Red Wing team photo is right next to it.

They won’t win another game until they know they are eliminated from the playoffs.

If management had any balls they’d sign Fil to a 3 year $5 mil. per contract and then trade him to Boston for Lucic.

Anyone that thinks this team will make the playoffs has to be on some mighty powerful happy drugs.

I call sharezies !!!!!
