Best to you and the family, get well George we’ll be here when you get back.

PS guess AA and KH have reached an agreement. How is KH going to make room.

Posted by stateofmifan on 10/20/17 at 03:31 PM ET

I was just going to ask. We are playing Capitals tonight and nothing from Malik. Feel better!

Posted by VPalmer on 10/20/17 at 03:43 PM ET

It better not be Frk of might be chaos in the streets.

Who else it’s going to be? Booth, Witkovski, Frk? I hear people say Sheahan and I laugh at that.
If AA signs 1 year deal, it’s going to be only for $1.25 or slightly more. KH will find a way to accomplish that without touching any of our “favourite” players.

Who else it’s going to be?

Sheahan seems to have fallen out of favour, and has been in rumors since the deadline last year. He’s the best candidate that wouldn’t necessitate a 2nd move (like frk, booth, and wit).

Or do I have my rose colored glasses on?

Posted by ilovehomers on 10/20/17 at 04:17 PM ET

Maybe the Sheahan deal if it’s still available or Kronwell on LTIR. Everything is a guess, news tonight at 6 PM.

Posted by stateofmifan on 10/20/17 at 04:19 PM ET

Almost anyone but Sheahan or LTIR won’t free up enough money.

Detroit Red Wings and Andreas Athanasiou agree to one-year deal

The Wings will have to create cap space to sign Athanasiou, and he will need a work visa before he can join the Wings.

Athanasiou will have arbitration rights next summer.

If the team really gets lucky he moves Abby or Helm and then has space let over to make moves at the trade deadline. Glendenning has been playing well so far this year so there maybe interest in him as well.

From Bob McKenzie at TSN via Twitter:

@TSNBobMcKenzie - DET and RFA forward Andreas Athanasiou have agreed to terms on a one-year contract worth $1.387M.

Contract can’t be signed/filed with league yet as DET would not be cap compliant so expect a move or two to come in near future.

Short term solution to get AA in lineup for DET is demote a player or two to AHL but Wings will likely make a trade at some point

AA is still in Switzerland. Will be returning home to TOR, packing up and going to DET. Could be practising in DET by early to mid next week

How soon he gets in DET lineup after that would be at discretion of HC Jeff Blashill. In any case, DET has some time to make its move(s).

DET and PIT were reportedly close to a Riley Sheahan trade in off-season. Nothing imminent or assured there right now, though.

Not saying a Sheahan to PIT deal couldn’t be revived but PIT is exploring multiple options to get a depth centre so anything is possible.

I’m okay with that if that were to happen. Then Booth or Whit can be waived. No sense in having both if you aren’t gonna play both. Personally, I like Whit. Dude is a 4th line wrecking ball any not afraid to hit anyone from the other team. Booth… Eh.. Besides the hair.. Almost prefer having Miller back. Hell of a PKer.

Thanks, OTC and Stoney.

Isnt the salary prorated? Losing 10k/day? So AA literally lost salary?

NHL teams can retain ~ 1.1 mil in the AHL, so sending Sheahan down does not save us. We need to trade him for $1 like Kris Draper.

Posted by ilovehomers on 10/20/17 at 05:24 PM ET

The headline of the thread now can be not only about George, but AA too
Is AA starting to get paid now or only when he plays his first game?

I’m assuming players are paid by the game and not by the day.
AA signs for $1.387M for one year = $16,915 per game (for an 82-game schedule).
After tonight’s game with Washington the Wings will have 74 games left.
74 x $16,915 $1,251,710

So…..assuming that my assumptions are correct, AA would get close to the $1.25M the Wings originally offered him on a 1-year deal even though he will play less than a full season.

Not sure, but that’s the amount he settled for for the remainder of the season. I don’t see someone settling for an amount then having it reduced.

Health and family come first, best wishes and hope all feel better soon.

It did sound somewhat positive that everyone got on a conference call - like they were trying to
clear the air perhaps.

Booth has barely played. I assume he would go down first.

Witkowski’s minutes have been almost laughable - actually the whole fourth line has seemingly
played less so far this season. But Witkowski has a distinct role and yes, lol, there is the
vaunted versatility. There are still some awfully truculent lineups in the league and he at least
throws his body around and can absorb another team’s worst if needed.

Well, good news both sides finally figured this out. I hope AA comes in super-motivated
and Blashill gives him a chance at more time if he does so.

This is HSJ saying he’s losing 10k per day.

Yeah, I know, its HSJ.

Assuming it comes out to 1.25 mil:

Either AA got no more money than what has been offered or

He got more money to get TC, preseason, and a few games off.
