Will Kindl Hear The Wake-Up Call?

from Chuck Pleiness of Red Wings Front,

Kindl will be paired on the second power play unit with Brendan Smith.

For Kindl it may be his last chance to make this team has a regular.

“That’s another good thing about injures, other people get opportunities,” Babcock said. “If you grab hold of it you get to play a long, long time. Everybody comes in has nobody and then does something.

“You have to grab hold of it,” Babcock continued. “Kuba is getting to the point in his career, this is eight years now when you drafted him, you have to grab hold of it. If not you’re not part of it.”

It’s not a question of Kindl ‘waking up’ or remaining ‘asleep’.

He’s not good enough.  There’s not enough coaching in the world to make someone who isn’t good enough, good enough.  It’s not going to happen.

If he were good enough he’d have shown it at some point over the last 3 or 4 calendar years he’s been in the mix for an NHL roster spot.

Jakub Kindl: The new Maxim Kuznetsov. Maybe L.A. would like to make a trade with us again…

Holy bleep, Kuznetzov is a good comparison.  IMO, same feeling exactly.  There was a bunch of pro-Kuz sturm und drang when he was up for a while… but the dude just wasn’t any good.  Big?  Sure.  Just no good.

If I had to pick something that we as Detroit fans are really going to have to get used to, it’s having 1-3 guys on the roster who probably don’t belong in the NHL.

Yeah, lots of fans have complained about guys on the Wings who sucked, but for the most part that was just them sucking in comparison to the 10 hall of famers they were on the ice with.

Now… now we’re going to have to start complaining about 1-3 guys who actually suck compared to anybody, not just Lidstrom or Yzerman.  Kindl, Emmerton, Lashoff are the 3 we have right now… and the jury is out pretty hard on Abdelkader (who we have for four more years).  And it’s possible Quincey is another one.

And oh by the way, Jiri Fischer hasn’t even turned 33 yet.

I’m glad he’s healthy, but losing him really, really hurt the blue line.

HHD.. Are you saying that Lashoff sucks?

So, what happens when E returns?

Lineup tonight per Khan is ...

Niklas Kronwall-Brian Lashoff
Kyle Quincey-Brendan Smith
Kent Huskins-Jakub Kindl

I would have to guess that Q gets bumped down with Huskins.  Does Lashoff stay paired with Kronner, to avoid a rookie pairing with Smith?  That would make a D lineup like ...

Niklas Kronwall-Brian Lashoff
Jonathon Ericsson-Brendan Smith
Kent Huskins-Kyle Quincey

is that right? And if that pans out, do we assume Kindl is waived, or do they need to keep him for depth when White returns?  More interestingly, does it provide Lashoff the opportunity in the next few weeks to convince the coaches that Q should be waived or traded and Lashoff should stay for good.  I would feel better about that.  I might be convinced to thinking the Wings might be alright, even.

Oh yeah.  He’s not an actual NHL dman.

He’s an okay AHL replacement level fill in, but that’s it.

IMO any time you’re behind one or two guys on the depth chart who suck, by definition you suck.  Heck, last year in GR he was behind or even with Smith, Janik, Exelby and Pyett… and three of those guys suck.

I have to disagree with you on Lashoff. He hasn’t sucked yet and has definitely outplayed Quincey so far, which hasn’t been that hard wink He’s not there (yet) but I see him as a Stuart/Rouse type.

And oh by the way, Jiri Fischer hasn’t even turned 33 yet.

Losing Fischer was a HUGE blow. Can you imagine what the Wings could have accomplished with Lidstrom, Konsatntinov and Fischer on the back end for years?

So by your definition there, you’re saying Lashoff hasn’t and will never improve.

He has two games under his belt, one goal, and is even on a team that hasn’t scored worth a damn…and he barely worthy of “AHL replacement level fill in”.

Heh…right. Ok.

Eh. Emmerton isn’t the next coming or anything.. but he is a decent center for the 4th line. He can grind and does what he is told.  He belongs in the NHL.. we would just all prefer someone better.. but in the salary cap days Emmerton is a 3rd/4th line center on any team in the league.

Lashoff. He has so far proved he is a viable NHL defenseman. He has better stats than the regulars and its not because he has played less games like most call ups. If he can sustain his current level of play he would be a great 3rd pairing guy for any team. Not to mention he is 22 and defenders(non-wunderkinds) usually take till late 20s and 30s to hit their “prime”.

Well, no.  No I’m not.

What I am saying is that he sucks.  Not that he’ll suck the same amount forever, or suck more.  There may be some subsequent incremental lessening to his degree of suck.  Or not.

I’m saying that when you’re on a team with Janik, Exelby and Pyett and you can’t separate yourself from them… you suck.

I’m saying that when you’re behind Kindl on the depth chart and Kindl sucks… you suck.

He has two games under his belt, one goal, and is even on a team that hasn’t scored worth a damn…and he barely worthy of “AHL replacement level fill in”.

If Detroit’s dmen were healthy where would Lashoff be?
If Detroit still had the rights to Doug Janik, where would Lashoff be?

Emmerton isn’t the next coming or anything.. but he is a decent center for the 4th line. He can grind and does what he is told.  He belongs in the NHL..

Let me put it this way.  Emmerton is maybe the worst regular forward the Wings have had in the since the 05 season.  We’re talking Downey, Mowers and Emmerton.

He has so far proved he is a viable NHL defenseman.

Horseapples.  He was the 3rd or 4th best dman for an AHL team last year.  He had a goofball fluke goal this year.

He’s not the worst player in the universe, but the guy shouldn’t be on an NHL roster.  The only reason he’s on one now is that 3 guys ahead of him got hurt and two more guys ahead of him aren’t in the system any more.
