Whalers’ charity game in Livonia raises $30,000; Whalers holding ‘try hockey for free’ clinic Wed

The Plymouth Whalers and Windsor Spitfires played the teams' first exhibition games leading up to the OHL season at Livonia's Eddie Edgar Arena this past Saturday, hoping to raise funds to help build a park and memorial honoring fallen police officers and firefighters.

Today, the Whalers' Twitter account reports that the game was a smashing success:

Update: The Plymouth Whalers are also holding a "Try Hockey For Free" clinic tomorrow at Compuware Arena, and they're both taking registrations and welcoming walk-ins:

Compuware Arena and the Plymouth Whalers are offering to parents and their children new to hockey an opportunity to experience the game for the first time – at no cost.

“Try Hockey for Free” runs at Compuware Arena on Wednesday, September 4 from 6:10-7:00 pm at Compuware Arena.

Compuware Arena is located at 14900 N. Beck Road (between 5-Mile and M-14) in Plymouth Township.  Phone number is (734) 453-8400.

The program is free.  Ice time, sticks, pucks, skates and sets of equipment will be provided for children and their parents who are new to the game.

The Plymouth Whalers and the 2013 Michigan State Champion Compuware U-12 Girls hockey team will be assisting.  A Whaler or Compuware U-12 player will be assigned to a new player and will assist them over the course of the session.

About The Malik Report

The Malik Report is a destination for all things Red Wings-related. I offer biased, perhaps unprofessional-at-times and verbose coverage of my favorite team, their prospects and developmental affiliates. I've joined the Kukla's Korner family with five years of blogging under my belt, and I hope you'll find almost everything you need to follow your Red Wings at a place where all opinions are created equal and we're all friends, talking about hockey and the team we love to follow.
