DETROIT RETURNS EMMERTON TO GRAND RAPIDS
… Center Has 32 Points in 41 Games with Griffins This Season …

DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings today assigned center Cory Emmerton to the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins.

A native of St. Thomas, Ontario, Emmerton is tied for fourth on the Griffins with 32 points (12-20-32) in 41 games. The 25-year-old forward is tied for fifth on the club in goals, ranks fourth in assists and is tied for the team lead with two shorthanded goals. He has also skated in 11 contests for the Red Wings this season, recording two points (0-2-2). In 132 career NHL games since 2010-11, he has tallied 21 points (12-9-21) and 22 penalty minutes, in addition to two points (1-1-2) in 18 career NHL playoff games. The sixth-year pro has played 258 career games for Grand Rapids, recording 143 points (46-97-143) and 80 penalty minutes.

I would have put him in ahead of Andersson, and maybe even Glendening, but I dont know if the cap was a factor.

Cap is not a factor. Emerton’s cap hit is like the lowest of all players ever in the NHL. He just didn’t impress in his time here, clearly, and babcock would prefer Andy and Glendening’s tenacity.
