Tweets from practice: Zetterberg ‘maintenance day’ as Wings attempt to build upon win over Winnipeg

Updated 2x at 1:27 PM The Detroit Red Wings hit the ice at Little Caesars Arena just after 12 PM, hoping to build upon their 4-1 win over the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday. The Wings will enjoy a 3-day break before hosting the St. Louis Blues for a Saturday matinee (1 PM start), and then the Wings begin a stretch of 4 games to be played over the course of 7 nights.

The Red Wings' Twitter account was the first to say, "Hello" this afternoon...

Followed by the Detroit News's Gregg Krupa...

I thought Z looked better yesterday than in the previous 10 games or so. Still not sure why he continues to pass the puck through 5 sticks on a PP.

Is he trying to make a play?

As long as you are OK with a low percentage passes that result in a scoring chance in 10% of cases and in other 90% result in the other team clearing the zone with ease.

It’s OK if Zee keeps trying extremely low percentage plays. You know, because it’s Zee.

But when AA tries a low-percentage rush, or Mantha makes a low-percentage play…well there are consequences for that!

ahhh…..every time a shot is attempted in the NHL it has less than a 10% chance of going in the goal, so…....based on your logic, why ever shoot the puck?

ohhhhh, man…....I hate it when people who have earned their place do something stupid…..man, that’s annoying.

ahhh (this the way to start the sentence to make it more impressive?), you know exactly what kind of plays I am talking about and probably agree Z should limit those ill advised passes, but you are just being you and it’s fine.

yes…the kind that score goals. If Z isn’t attempting those passes then there are fewer shots taken. Fewer shots means more complaints about how the team just skates around and makes too many easy passes while never shooting. Exciting hockey, as we all love (see love for AA) is hockey that takes chances. AA would not be as loved as he is if he didn’t step into the lane to swipe pucks (a low % play). Yet….....we all love his break aways which has elevated our perception of his value to the team. It’s exactly why we love Z so much. He does what most players can’t do with the puck. Id’ rather have a bunch of players on the team who have confidence when they have the puck then guys who just make safe plays.

Sorry but Z made 2 or 3 poor plays on that particular PP, including the across the seam pass through everyone.  It’s awesome when it works but it didn’t.
