The Red Wings’ goalies are diametrical opposites when it comes to ‘Face Paint’

The Score has posted two videos regarding the Red Wings goaltenders’ masks over the past three weeks, and as it turns out, Ty Conklin is as uninterested in what adorns his mask as Jimmy Howard is particular about the design work Ray Bishop does for him. Here’s the Score’s clip of Ty Conklin shrugging off wearing a “back-up” mask from his last stint in Detroit…

And here’s Jimmy Howard describing his mask in great detail:

Quoth the hockey equipment nerd: If I had a few grand to spend on a custom-made mask and Ray Bishop paint job, I’d go with a bit of a Mike Vernon/Thomas McCollum tribute in asking for a mask with wings along the ears/cheeks, attached to a wheel adorning and spanning the forehead, and I’d love to swipe Conklin’s Detroit Falcons “D” on the chin (though I’d add a very small red maple leaf on one side and a striped star on the other to represent the fact that I was born 3 miles north of Windsor, and all of the mask would be painted on a red background)...And my backplate would involve A Perfect Circle’s logo and my name posted in great lakes freighter style, with my name and the place I was built (Detroit) in plain, simple letters along the bottom.

About The Malik Report

The Malik Report is a destination for all things Red Wings-related. I offer biased, perhaps unprofessional-at-times and verbose coverage of my favorite team, their prospects and developmental affiliates. I've joined the Kukla's Korner family with five years of blogging under my belt, and I hope you'll find almost everything you need to follow your Red Wings at a place where all opinions are created equal and we're all friends, talking about hockey and the team we love to follow.
