The Red Wings Were A Little Better Than The Ducks

from Helene Elliott of the LA Times,

What should have been a memory for the ages — a Game 7, a defining moment every NHL player craves — evolved into a dispirited 3-2 loss for the second-seeded Ducks, who were a step slower and a split-second behind the seventh-seeded Red Wings most of the night.

"I don't think anybody expected to come up short," Ducks winger Bobby Ryan said. "I think we were all coming to the rink tonight very confident in ourselves and very excited about where this could take us. It's a pretty low-morale group now, that's for sure.

Corey Perry knelt in the neutral zone for several seconds after the final buzzer, his face a mask of disbelief. Teemu Selanne, the certain Hall of Fame winger who will be 43 in July and might have played his final NHL game, didn't get off the bench in the final minute. Like his team, he had little left at the end.

Anaheim: Best regular season in team history.

Detroit: Rebuilding year.

Better team? Wings. That’s gotta hurt.

Also….huh? Not sure if this is supposed to be on purpose, or whether spelling is a tough thing for those Ducks people. It’s not like ZetterbErg is a high-profile player, or, y’know, a team captain or anything…..

Looks like they got Fil’s name wrong too, yet somehow through all that spelled Datsyuk correctly.

Jeebus, 1/3 of the Wings lineup were rookies and they turned in a clinic of poise and perseverance.  Right from the go, they were switched on.

Anyone notice about 3 minutes in, when Etam is talking, there’s a whiteboard with Detroit’s lines listing the matchups? How’d that work out for ya?

Like that stupid crosschecking penalty that negated your PP whe your team needed it most???

Go and drive your fancy sports cars up and down the PCH, Salami.  There’s plenty of time for that now.

Not so long ago, the questions included whether Abdelkader belonged on the first line given his lack of offense, whether Howard could help carry the team, whether they could play well enough for long enough to put together a winning streak to get into the playoffs, let alone if the kids could overcome their youthful errors (let alone a defense that overall doesn’t scare teams) to win a playoff series.

They won with their top players coming through despite drawing more penalty minutes than the Ducks and their top flight power play. The lack of a training camp hurt, but each playoff game they play fills in the gaps of experience to help make up for it, and maybe, just maybe, this is why they started playing better. (Filppula finally scoring and Cleary scoring twice in the series didn’t hurt).

It’s all gravy from here, the season has gone past my (and likely most of our) expectations. More playoff experience is good for the youngsters. I don’t think anyone expects them to get past Chicago, let alone take them 7 game, but 3 out of 4 OT games tells us the Wings aren’t necessarily going to be outclassed (and as George noted, there is no shootout). I wouldn’t mind in the least having 2 or 3 more Wings series to talk about this spring,....

Yes, yes true.

I am absolutely convinced that on the Wings airplane and lockerroom they believe they can win the next series.

You deserved to be swept.  You’re lazy, short-tempered, and completely bereft of discipline or leadership.  You got punked by a rebuilding team of kids that spent 48 season games turning the puck over and not scoring.

Truthfully, you probably deserved a #8 seed and a sweep at the hands of CHI.

Frauds, all of you.

Corey Perry knelt in the neutral zone for several seconds after the final buzzer, his face a mask of disbelief.

I have a feeling he felt the same way in high school when the head cheerleader turned down his invite to the prom, choosing instead to go with a shorter and sturdier guy who was already capable of growing a sexy beard. Perry probably got stuck going with a real loser – a big, tall masculine-looking girl who was going prematurely bald.

Funny how life repeats itself.

Anaheim regular season 2.79 goals per game, 2.4 goals against
Anaheim playoffs 3.0 goals per game, 2.57 goals against

yet they lost.  to a Wings team that had 2.54 goals per game and 2.29 goals against in the regular season.

if it weren’t for that one “blowout” game the stats would probably be quite different.

“As a group of guys, we have to learn something from this,” 42-year-old Selanne said. “I think we deserved better than this. That’s hockey, you never know.”

Wow, his sense of entitlement runs deep.

Striking resemblance, but it was Getzlaf’s sister.

HAHAHAHA, I love this stuff. Fvck the Ducks and everything about them. The way they handle themselves should be an embarrassment to their “fans”, but you know they just love the way they bitch and moan and cry.

Adios ducks, have fun being a joke yet again.
