Teemu Pulkkinen’s agent is talking tough (I think) regarding negotiations with the Red Wings

This is rare: According to Iltahleti’s Pekka Jalonen, the Red Wings and Teemu Pulkkinen’s agent, Krister Kaukinen, are working out the details of Pulkkinen’s three-year, entry-level contract with the Wings, but as Iltahleti’s a bit of a tabloid, Kaukinen’s being given a platform to “talk tough” about said contract. Here’s an incredibly, incredibly rough translation of what Pulkkinen’s agent had to say:

20-year-old Jokerit forward Teemu Pulkkinen’s living in exciting times. Pulkkinen’s agent is continually talking with the Detroit Red Wings.

“We recently talked to Detroit on Wednesday, and on Thursday evening we’ll continue to negotiate. Some issues are still open. Let’s see what happens,” Pulkkinen’s representative, Krister Kaukinen, said.

Pulkkinen was drafted in 2010, so Pulkki has until 6/1 to reach an agreement with Detroit. If the agreement isn’t reached, Pulkkinen can be drafted again around midsummer at Pittsburgh’s NHL Entry Draft.

“If the money and agreement don’t emerge, [the draft’s] entrants will have roughly the same terms and conditions,” Kaukinen said.

Pulkkinen was selected for the under-18 World Championship in 2010, and was named the best forward and an All-Star team member, when he led the World Championship in points. During the 2010-2011 season, Pulkkinen was named the SM-Liiga rookie of the year. He broke the record for rookie points in a season (36) and also made his debut on the adult national team.

There’s no doubt in my mind that the Wings will reach terms with Pulkkinen, Calle Jarnkrok and Tomas Jurco before June 1st, but there’s nothing like a little saber-rattling to reiterate the urgency of putting pen to paper.

It’s not what Kaukinen said! He said “it’s not about money because all entry-level are similiar”. There was nothing “tough” in that story. You just need to get better translator.

If it’s not about money then what could it be about?  And if there’s no tough talk then why is he speaking publicly about it and not just having his client sign on the line which is dotted?

Maybe the wings will realize they need young legs in the nhl and not in the minors or overseas. I know they like saving money on developing players (top contract at 25-30 instead of 20-25), but these kids won’t have kid legs for long and you might as well get the most out of them.

George, I’m fluent in scandinavian so i’ll translate for you;

From what I see in school, most young people these days are spoiled and believe they are entitled.  I wonder if we’re beginning to see the end of the era in which young players will be thrilled and humbled to be drafted by an NHL team…

I could seriously use a Finnish translator if anyone is willing to step up…And yeah, Finland is kind of its own entity, linguistically (a language imported from the Caucuses mountains, seriously?) and otherwise.

But Cuba is North American.

Sometimes the term Scandinavia is also taken to include Iceland, the Faroe Islands, and Finland, on account of their historical association with the Scandinavian countries.

Oh, is that what you meant?

Such usage, however, may be considered inaccurate in the area itself, where the term Nordic countries instead refers to this broader group.

Yes, Cuba and everything down to Panama is still North America.
