Team USA officially announces Abdelkader, DeKeyser as participating in World Championships

MLive'sAnsar Khan reported that Jakub Kindl (Czech Republic), Tomas Tatar (Slovakia), Gustav Nyquist (Sweden) and Justin Abdelkader (USA) will take part in the World Championships, but Khan stated that Danny DeKeyser was iffy on participation. USA Hockey issued a press release stating that DeKeyser's made up his mind:

Forward Justin Abdelkader (Muskegon, Mich./Detroit Red Wings/Michigan State Univ.) and defenseman Danny DeKeyser (Clay Township, Mich./Detroit Red Wings/Western Michigan Univ.) have been added to the 2014 U.S. Men's National Team that will compete at the International Ice Hockey Federation Men's World Championship May 9-25 in Minsk, Belarus.

Previously, Abdelkader skated for the U.S. Men's National Team at the 2012 IIHF Men's World Championship in Helsinki, Finland, and Stockholm, Sweden. He had a goal and three assists in eight games. Also, he earned a bronze medal with Team USA at the 2007 IIHF World Junior Championship in Leksand and Mora, Sweden, where he had two assists in seven games.

DeKeyser will be making his U.S. National Team debut, though he attended the 2013 U.S. Men's National Team Orientation Camp that assisted the preparation for the 2014 Olympic Winter Games.

Team USA's roster now has 13 forwards, eight defensemen and one goaltender. The maximum roster size is 25.

Update: Via RedWingsFeed, Nyquist told Expressen's Pontus Weinemo that he won't play in the Worlds' tune-up, the Oddset Hockey Games, but he does expect playing in the World Championship to be "damn fun."

There are so many threads here, I’ll just post this again.

For twice the salary of Franzen, $7.8M, you could get this:

Rangers: Rick Nash in 17 playoff games with the New York Rangers, has one goal.

True. It looks like no Franzen buy out, but there could be a trade this upcoming season or next.

The Malik Report is a destination for all things Red Wings-related. I offer biased, perhaps unprofessional-at-times and verbose coverage of my favorite team, their prospects and developmental affiliates. I've joined the Kukla's Korner family with five years of blogging under my belt, and I hope you'll find almost everything you need to follow your Red Wings at a place where all opinions are created equal and we're all friends, talking about hockey and the team we love to follow.
