Tatar hopes to avoid arbitration

Tomas Tatar spoke with CAS.sk's "Mko" regarding his recovery from shoulder surgery and his status as having filed for salary arbitration with the Red Wings, and even through a very rough translation, Tatar makes a relatively bold statement:

The Slovak forward, who had a shoulder operation in the middle of April, has been training for the new season for several weeks. "I'm already starting to work out the upper part of my body, but it's going to take a while until I'm 100% fit," Tatar said, and he and his agent, Rich Winter, have been working on a new contract for some time now. "Detroit offered me a contract, and even with a few options--for a year, or four or five. We're still talking about the length, and of course, the financial amount of the contract. However, we aren't going anywhere, and there's been time enough," Tatar told CAS, who may be headed to an arbitration court.

"Arbitration is the last option, I have to sign off, it's just a mandatory contract. Unless I agree with Detroit, I'll go to the court, where they'll give me a year's contract. That would probably be my last season in Detroit. We'll see in a few days or weeks before it all comes together," said Tatar.

I think players recognize some of the inconsistancies in KHs contracts.

Not an overly good view from the outside looking in.

Not exactly oozing offense on this team and 5m is more than fair.. garauntee theyre locked in to some variation of Gus’s contract for “internal structure”

Keep Tatar.  Send Nyquist off somewhere even if only for used practice pucks.  He (Nyquist) will probably be an excellent addition some place else, but he needs the wakeup call of a trade even if it is of minimal value to the Red Wings.  He cannot continue to skate around the fringes and play virtually no role in the offense.

Yes see ya Nyquist, waste of Cap space.  Good to see Tats getting his surgery done quickly after the season. North of $5M. Best bet take 1yr and go UFA for big $$$. This dumpster fire won’t be put out before you retire.
