Strange theatre as Bryan Murray denounces and then praises Daniel Alfredsson

Via RedWingsFeed, Ottawa Senators GM Bryan Murray engaged in an absolutely bizarre press conference in which he discussed Daniel Alfredsson's departure to the Red Wings, vacillating between fury and praise in...Well, you'll have to watch it to get it (and if you wish, Pro Hockey Talk's Mike Halford offers a Tweet-based blow-by-blow):

Do you know what the word “denounce” means? None of that in this clip

Professional, surprisingly open, and a little emotional, but absolutely no fury involved.  Not sure if you posted the wrong video, but your description of the one I just watched is way off the mark.

No idea how you come to the conclusion that Murray was denouncing Alfie, or throwing him under the bus, or anything else.

The guy had just lost the face of his franchise and he came prepared so he could explain to his fan-base, the people that pay his salary/buy the tickets/merchandise/etc. how the long-time captain of their team just went to play for their future division rival.  He never said a bad word about Alfie, never decried the way things were handled, never said anything negative about him at all.  He wished him the best and admitted that sometimes this stuff happens.  Where’s the denouncment?

I was following your twitter feed while listening to the press conference and didn’t get how you came to post the tweets that you did, let alone coming up the above headline for your MR post.  Maybe seeing what you expected to see instead of what actually took place?

Regardless, way off the mark, and I’m not a big Bryan Murray fan.  I thought he handled it about as well he could have given the circumstances.

I thought he was devastated and held himself as best he could, too, but it was still strange to see.
