Stephen Weiss Knows He Is Struggling

The Panthers play the Wings in Detroit on Saturday night...

from Harvey Fialkov of the Sun Sentinel,

... while Weiss is relishing his newfound relevance just by playing for the New York Yankees of hockey, he admits his slow start of four points in 23 games has made for a tougher transition.

"You guys know why I came here, to win games and be on a good team,'' Weiss told the Sun Sentinel via cellphone Thursday en route to New Jersey where the 14-8-7 Red Wings played the Devils Friday night.

"It's awesome to be at the top of the standings and nice for a change for sure. Personally, it's been a struggle. … You try not to read the newspapers and keep all that stuff out of my head. It's been tough.''

"When I was out of the lineup we had some lines that were really playing well so it was tough to creep your way back up,'' said Weiss, who missed six games with a groin injury. "With the injuries, now I have a chance to move up and play more minutes.

"Hopefully, I can keep playing better and gain more trust from the coach [Mike Babcock] and find my game. It hasn't come as easily as I would've liked.''

About The Malik Report

The Malik Report is a destination for all things Red Wings-related. I offer biased, perhaps unprofessional-at-times and verbose coverage of my favorite team, their prospects and developmental affiliates. I've joined the Kukla's Korner family with five years of blogging under my belt, and I hope you'll find almost everything you need to follow your Red Wings at a place where all opinions are created equal and we're all friends, talking about hockey and the team we love to follow.
