Retired Red Wings Nicklas Lidstrom, Tomas Holmstrom to appear at The Ticket’s SportsFest in Feb.

I don't want the Thursday practice post to get buried by today's waiver news--I'm still updating it with mid-day news stories as there are changes in the respective statuses of Mikael Samuelsson (probably good to go Saturday), Darren Helm (is improving), Joey MacDonald (confusing situation) and Jakub Kindl (sore groin, out for the weekend)--nor do I want the Griffins' wonderful video chronicling Tuesday' Red vs. White game to be forgotten, but this bit of news most certainly merits its own post:

According to 97.1 the Ticket, their annual SportsFest will take place at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi on Sunday, February 16th, from 10 AM until 6 PM, and two very important Red Wings will make appearances at the event:

Nicklas Lidstrom - A 20-year veteran with the Detroit Red Wings before retiring at the end of last season. The former Captain of the Red Wings is thought to be one of the best defenseman to ever play in the NHL. Lidstrom spent his entire 20-year career in Detroit with the Red Wings. Lidstrom won four Stanley Cups with the Detroit Red Wings and is seven time Norris Trophy winner.

Tomas Holmstrom – Played with the Detroit Red Wings from 1994 – 2012. Holmstrom has won four Stanley Cup championships with the Red Wings. He is widely considered as one of the best in the game at screening goalies and causing havoc in front of the net. Holmstrom retired from the Red Wings before the 2013 season.

You can read more about the event here.

There's still no word from the Wings as to whether Holmstrom will hold a retirement presser tomorrow, or whether he'll wait until next week (the Wings have two days off after their home opener against Dallas on Tuesday, and will hang around in town to host the Wild next Friday, so that may be a better time for Holmstrom to hold his presser as the Wings are leaving town right after their 12 PM practice tomorrow to head to St. Louis), but there will be tears, without a doubt...And it's plain old wonderful to hear that Lidstrom will be back in town in mid-February, if only for a little while.

About The Malik Report

The Malik Report is a destination for all things Red Wings-related. I offer biased, perhaps unprofessional-at-times and verbose coverage of my favorite team, their prospects and developmental affiliates. I've joined the Kukla's Korner family with five years of blogging under my belt, and I hope you'll find almost everything you need to follow your Red Wings at a place where all opinions are created equal and we're all friends, talking about hockey and the team we love to follow.
