The Malik Report

Not-so-super news on the personnel front from the Red Wings: Niklas Kronwall is missing today’s game with a sore shoulder, and the Free Press’s Helene St. James suggests that Kronwall will miss tomorrow’s game against Minnesota as well:
Detroit Red Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall is scratched for today’s game against the Nashville Predators at Bridgestone Arena because of a sore shoulder. General manager Ken Holland said Kronwall is day-to-day. Kronwall took a lap in the pre-game skate, but skated off fairly quickly. He likely will miss Sunday’s game against Minnesota, too.
MLive’s Ansar Khan reports that Pavel Datsyuk, however, will return from what Fox Sports Detroit’s Trevor Thompson revealed to be a deep thigh bruise (i.e.a Charley horse) on Sunday:
Detroit Red Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall was scratched for today’s game against the Nashville Predators at Bridgestone Arena. Kronwall has been bothered by a sore shoulder. He took the ice for the pregame warmups but didn’t stay on for long.
General manager Ken Holland said Pavel Datsyuk is expected to return to the lineup for Sunday’s game against Minnesota at Joe Louis Arena (5 p.m., FSD). Datsyuk has missed seven games with a lower-body injury.
Given the fact that players with Charley horses and/or thigh bruises (depending how you define the term) can suffer from muscle calcification if they push their recovery timetables, I’m glad that the Wings were cautious with him.
