RED WINGS TO HOLD BONE MARROW REGISTRATION DRIVE AT HOCKEY FIGHTS CANCER NIGHT THIS SATURDAY
… Drive Held in Memory of Red Wings Alumni Shawn Burr on Oct. 26 …
DETROIT– The Detroit Red Wings will host Hockey Fights Cancer Night presented by Van Andel Institute - Purple CommunitySM this Saturday, Oct. 26, when the Wings face off against the New York Rangers at 7:00 p.m. (FOX Sports Detroit & 97.1 The Ticket).
When doors open at 5:30 p.m., the Red Wings encourage fans to visit the bone marrow registration drive done in partnership with Delete Blood Cancer DKMS behind Section 126 on the concourse. By doing a quick cheek swab, fans will have the opportunity to be added to the Be The Match Registry®.
According to Delete Blood Cancer DKMS, thousands of patients with leukemia and other life-threatening diseases depend on finding matching donors who can save their life. Patients need donors who are a close genetic match. Even with a registry of millions, six out of 10 patients never receive the life-saving transplant they need.
This registration drive is done in memory of former Red Wings forward Shawn Burr, who had a bone marrow transplant in 2012 during his fight against acute myeloid leukemia.
The event is part of the annual Hockey Fights Cancer Awareness Month in October, an initiative founded by the NHL and NHLPA in December 1998 to raise money and awareness for hockey’s most important fight. To date, more than $12.8 million has been raised under the Hockey Fights Cancer initiative to support national and local cancer research institutions, children’s hospitals, player charities and local cancer organizations.

About The Malik Report
The Malik Report is a destination for all things Red Wings-related. I offer biased, perhaps unprofessional-at-times and verbose coverage of my favorite team, their prospects and developmental affiliates. I've joined the Kukla's Korner family with five years of blogging under my belt, and I hope you'll find almost everything you need to follow your Red Wings at a place where all opinions are created equal and we're all friends, talking about hockey and the team we love to follow.
