Red Wings’ parent company makes personnel moves

I wasn't quite sure what to do with this one, so I left the press release in the practice post, but Crain's Detroit Business's Bill Shea, via RedWingsFeed, offers some context as to what significant moves by Ilitch Holdings today mean for the Wings' future:

Detroit-based Ilitch Holdings Inc. said today it has hired Steve Marquardt away from Detroit's Compuware Corp. as its vice president of Olympia Development of Michigan LLC, the real estate arm of Mike and Marian Ilitch's business empire. The biggest item on Marquardt's plate will be the $650 million effort to build a new arena for the Red Wings in downtown Detroit.

The company also has a new corporate spokesman, but he's a name familiar to many: John Hahn, the longtime senior director of communications for the Ilitch-owned Detroit Red Wings, has been promoted to vice president of corporate communications for Ilitch Holdings, the company said in a statement today.

Ilitch Holdings President and CEO Christopher Ilitch made the announcement.

Hahn will be the public and media relations voice for the Ilitch family's corporate functions, including the arena project.

Marquardt had been vice president, administration and real estate at Compuware, where he led the design, construction and leasing of the software maker's Campus Martius Park headquarters. He also worked at the Michigan Head Pain and Neurological Institute in Ann Arbor.

Hahn had filled in previously as the corporate spokesman before returning to his communications role with the Red Wings over the past 16 years. He's been handling the corporate role since Sandra Van Meek left Ilitch Holdings earlier this year.

Huh.

So Illitch Holdings nabbed a VP away from Compuware, as Compuware currently burns in the harbor?  Interesting.  That’s an… interesting wrinkle on top of the news that Compuware has fired Karamanos because he ripped them a new one publicly.

There’s certainly layers to this thing.

They snagged Tom Wilson from the Palace when Mr. Davidson passed away. Smart people steal top execs from other organizations when they’re in turmoil. Good on the Ilitches.
