Red Wings mid-day news: on the ‘captain’s skate,’ a District Detroit jobs summit, videos & Perani’s

Updated 3x at 6:43 PM:

From the Red Wings:

DetroitRedWings.com's Bill Roose actually Tweeted these quips yesterday...

You might spot Jake Paterson training with Gary Roberts and company in Toronto, per Roberts' Instagram account...

Or his Twitter account...

Stephen Weiss is also in attenance (back row, standing, white helmet, red jersey, red gloves; unless the NHL expands, don't expect the Wings to be able to get rid o Weiss easily should he not rebound from his injury-plagued 2013-14 season)...

And this little business powwow is certainly intriguingly-timed, from Crain's Detroit Business's Bill Shea...

Olympia Development of Michigan has scheduled a “jobs summits” Thursday for Detroit-headquartered and Detroit-based businesses interested in bidding on work in the sprawling $200 million downtown arena and entertainment district the firm will begin building this fall.

The event will be at MotorCity Casino Hotel’s Sound Board theater.

Registration begins at 9 a.m.

From 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. will be an overview of project scope, construction opportunities, participation requirements and the procurement process, Olympia said in a statement.

Then from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. a “resource fair” will offer information on the certification process, joint venture agreements and hands-on business development support from companies, agencies and organizations involved in the project.

Schedule to be on hand are:
• Downtown Development Authority
• City of Detroit Human Rights Department
• Michigan Minority Business Development Center
• Detroit Employment Solutions
• Barton Malow-Hunt-White
• Heritage Development Services
• Olympia Development of Michigan

Detroit businesses can register at DistrictDetroit.com.

As is this video from WXYZ, via RedWingsFeed. New Hockeytown Cafe menu? Sounds good (their food is excellent)!

For what it's worth, both Crain's Detroit Business and  the Detroit News's Angelique Changelis report that Michigan Stadium made $5 million from the Winter Classic...

The Grand Rapids Griffins posted a video from this past Monday's Griffins Youth Foundation Golf Classic, complete with "drone" footage...

And finally, if you weren't aware of the Wings' new equipment-and-sporting-goods partnership with Perani's Hockey World, Sports Pro Media fills you in:

The Detroit Red Wings and of the National Hockey League (NHL) have announced a three-year partnership with Perani’s Hockey World.

The Michigan-based sporting goods store becomes the official hockey retailer of the team, as well as the locally based Little Caesars Amateur Hockey League (LCAHL).

As part of the deal Perani’s will sponsor the youth hockey pregame and intermission skates during all Red Wings home games until the end of the 2016-17 NHL season.The company, which is headquartered in Flint, Michigan, will also support a number of youth hockey initiatives around the state.

“Top to bottom, our company is very excited for this partnership,” said Robert Perani, a co-owner of Perani’s Hockey World. “Personally, I am humbled that the Detroit Red Wings and Little Caesars offered this exclusive partnership to our company and brought together three of the most respected names in hockey.

“We look forward to working with the Red Wings and Little Caesars to help grow our great sport moving forward.”

Quick update: This is clever:

Update #1: NHL.com's fantasy hockey gents weighed in with three lists of "sleeper" picks, and Tomas Tatar earns an "honorable mention," but that's it.

Update #2: From ESPN's Katie Strang's chat:

Dustin Morley (Norton Shores): Katie, I recently learned that you're a Grand Rapids native. With the Griffins doing so well lately, and possibly boasting a lineup this year featuring Mantha, Jurco, Pulkkinen, Mrazek, Sproul, Ouellet, Backman, and Marchenko; is there any reason I shouldn't be more excited for the Griffins than the Red Wings this year?

Katie Strang: Haha, indeed I am Dustin! Nothing wrong with getting amped for a good ol' Griffins game at Van Andel (do they still have dollar beers at games? asking for a friend..) but you have to imagine that at least a few of these players will compete for spots in training camp with the Wings this summer. I'll be at prospects camp in Traverse City next month so I will give you my scouting report on who looks good when I get back!

Update #3: The Left Wing Lock's Sarah Lindenau posted the Dallas Stars' prospect tournament roster;

The Red Wings posted an awesome photo gallery from their fantasy camp;

And the Wings' YouTube channel recapped the Ilitch Charities For Children's Golf Classic:
