Red Wings-Maple Leafs preseason morning skate Tweets: Leafs skip skate; Wings to dress Zetterberg

Updated 3x at 12:04 PM: The Detroit Red Wings take on the Toronto Maple Leafs in both teams' final preseason game this evening (7 PM EDT on FSD/TSN 4). The Wings held a morning skate as they prepared for their 4th game in 5 nights, but TorontoMapleLeafs.com's Paul Hendrick reported that the Leafs didn't hold a skate of their own:

4 games in 5 nights tonight for the Leafs in Detroit. No morning skate, veteran lineups for both teams. 48 players still in camp. #TMLtalk

I'd expect younger players like Matthews, Marner, Nylander to join older group tonite. Might Gauthier be in the mix too ?? #TMLtalk

Training camp observations after 2 weeks : Kasperi Kapanen and Andrew Nielsen have looked very good. Frederik Gauthier is quicker. #TMLtalk

Babcock had this to say about the Leafs' prospective lineup last night, per TSN's Kristen Shilton:

Babcock on Saturday's roster: "At the start of the day, I was going to have a complete lineup. Now I need a couple guys." Injury-based.

The Leafs press showed up at Joe Louis Arena for the final preseason tilt...

The Wings hit the ice a little after 10:30 for their morning skate...

And here's tonight's lineup:

Update: From Krupa:

blashill: zetterberg nielsen tatar, sheahan athanasiou mantha, tonight v. turrana.

blashill: ben streets will be OK. thanks toronto docs. says sheets terrifically composed.

fun to see and hear my colleague helene st. james of the freep speaking  danish to franz nielsen. #RedWings

veterans just starved to get some reps with each other out on the ice. nielsen, tatar, zetterberg all mention world cup related issue.

Update #2: From DetroitRedWings.com's Dana Wakiji:

#RedWings Zetterberg: This game tonight’s going to be huge for just to be back playing games.

#RedWings Zetterberg: You can only do that much in practice but you need to be out there and play games.

#RedWings Zetterberg: So we’re happy I was able to come back here and play tonight and it will help me for Thursday.

#RedWings Blashill: Ben was cut in the neck. They explored the wound, no major damage. He was taken to hospital last night to make sure.

Update #3: From the Free Press's Helene St. James...

Henrik Zetterberg in tonight with Frans Nielsen & Tomas Tatar. Riley Sheahan between Anthony Mantha & Andreas Athanasiou. #RedWings

And TSN's Mark Masters:

Henrik Zetterberg returns from knee injury tonight in Detroit's pre-season finale v Leafs; will start on line with Nielsen & Tatar

Blashill admitted he was scared when he saw replay, but noted that Ben Street: "Had unreal composure for somebody that had just happened to"

Henrik Zetterberg returns from knee injury tonight in Detroit's pre-season finale v Leafs; will start on line with Nielsen & Tatar

Blashill: "I may switch lines halfway thru, maybe 3 times, bc broadcasters told me they love that (smile)" CC: @GMillerTSN @jamiemclennan29

Update #3: Broadcast note from Masters:

Great quote here:

Wings coach Jeff Blashill says priority in camp has been "hammering home identity more than anything else"

Zetterberg excited to play with Nielsen tonight: "I've admired him all his career. I think he’s a really underrated player."

Double ditto:

Zetterberg on Datsyuk's absence: "I miss him already (smile). I think everybody does, but we dealt with it."

Update #4: The Leafs made some cuts, too:

Ever since Blashill revealed he was going to start the season playing Nielsen with Zetterberg I’ve been hoping the third forward on the line would be Tatar.

Now if we can just move Nyquist in that trade for Trouba #dreaming

Coreau’s stats jump off the page. Jared and Petr will be fighting for #1 hopefully as soon as next year. Petr better have a good year this year. Coreau with a different style and huge body might complement Petr.  Will see what Vegas does.

Wings have great depth in Goal.

So based on the released lines* I guess we’re looking at:

*zetterberg - nielsen - tatar,
Nyquist - Larkin - Vanek
*sheahan - athanasiou - mantha
Pulkkinen - Helm - Abby

Not too shabby. But with Miller, Glenny, Ott likely on the roster, at least 2 of these are being sent down.

My guess would be:

Nyquist - Larkin - Abby
Zetterberg - Nielson - Tatar
Vanek - Helm - Pulkkinen
Athanasiou - Sheahan - Mantha

@DreamsofHope I was using the released lines above that Blashill announced (the ones with the *) then filled in the others. By the end of the game who knows.
