The Malik Report

Update: Oh joy:
Red Wings forward Johan Franzen was punched in the face by Tampa Bay Lightning forward Radko Gudas in the 2nd period of the Wings-Bolts game, and Franzen smashed his stick as he went off the ice...taking a 2-minute misconduct penalty as a result.
Franzen apparently had a good reason to be pissed off:
My best guess is that Franzen is being held out of the game for precautionary reasons given head injury concerns. He was chirping at the officials and looked OK in terms of his eye, where I thought he got scratched.
Update: Via RedWingsFeed, here's Fox Sports Detroit's Dana Wakiji's take:
The Red Wings' injury problems have gone from serious to surreal.
Johan Franzen, forced into playing center because of injuries to centers Henrik Zetterberg, Stephen Weiss and Darren Helm, had to leave Sunday's game at 4:35 of the second period after a hit from Tampa Bay defenseman Radko Gudas.
To add insult to injury, Franzen received a penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct after slamming his stick on the boards after the hit.
The team announced late in the second period that Franzen would not return to the game.
Before the game, coach Mike Babcock told reporters, "We're running out of guys to get opportunities. Pretty soon you guys are going to be dressing."
