The Malik Report

Red Wings broadcaster Mickey Redmond mentioned this on last night's broadcast, but I was surprised that no one else mentioned it. Per Regina, Saskatchewan's News Talk 980 CJME's Lisa Schick, Red Wings legend Metro Prystai passed away on Thursday.
You may remember Prystai because the three-time Stanley Cup-winner was absolutely gobsmacked when Mike and Marian Ilitch ensured that all living Red Wings alums would receive rings for their respective Stanley Cup wins in 2008, and Prystai received his ring in the mail. Schick notes that Prystai had a helluva career:
Metro "Meatball" Prystai made it to the Stanley Cup series three times in his career and also played in three all-star games. He spent 11 years in the NHL but it all started in Saskatchewan. The Yorkton native first played with the Moose Jaw Canucks of the SJHL before entering the NHL with the Chicago Blackhawks in 1947.
He was with the Red Wings for all three Stanley Cup runs.
"It was terrific," Prystai recalled in an interview recently posted online by the author of a forthcoming book about his life. "If I could do it all over again I would," he laughed.
He also spoke about the 1952 series against Montreal specifically.
"I'll never forget that series. A lot of times I think about some of those series and that one, especially, we went eight straight.
"Not a goal scored at home," he explained, recalling how tough the series was. "And only one, two, I think it was maybe four goals scored against us when we were playing at opposition rinks."
The 85-year-old passed away Tuesday in a Wynyard care home.
