The Malik Report

Red Wings GM Ken Holland spoke to WDFN's Art Regner this morning, and, over the course of a 7:25 interview, he VERY specifically stated that Pavel Datsyuk's issues involve inflammation of the left knee that does not require surgery, but instead, requires rest--which is a sticky wicket--though Datsyuk will see a doctor on Wednesday.
Holland says that Datsyuk's, "Day to day" and may or may not play on Thursday as the Wings are hoping that a little more rest will give Datsyuk enough time to heal without adding no-playing-time rust.
Holland also tells Regner that the Wings' success in developing a strong talent base in Grand Rapids via drafting and developing--as well as the team's hunch that Zetterberg may be ready for the playoffs, and the uncertainty regarding Stephen Weiss's situation--makes the Wings' desire to make a move at the trade deadline an incredibly complicated guessing game.
He wants to make a "hockey deal" that would involve a player being on the roster next fall, save perhaps a low-cost addition on defense, but the fact that Alexey Marchenko, Xavier Ouellet, Ryan Sproul and Adam Almquist are all doing well in Grand Rapids makes the team a little hesitant to make anything less than "a hockey deal."
