The Malik Report

The Red Wings are both holding open skates at Comerica Park as part of the Hockeytown Winter Festival, though you have to buy tickets to take part, and they're holding an open practice on Wednesday at 12 PM, which is a pretty big deal as the team's held all of half-a-dozen free-and-or-charitable practices open to the non-season-ticket-holding public over the past half dozen years.
The Wings just posted an infographic regarding both the open skates and the open practice, and here it is, stating that the doors open at 11 and that parking at the Comerica garage will be $6.
I know that this news comes on very short notice, that we're talking about a weekday during the holiday season and that the high will be all of 32 degrees on Wednesday, but I would strongly urge you to take advantage of something that is probably not going to happen again for a long time and to skip work and/or school if you are at all able to fill the damn stands.
For the vast majority of Wings fans who were either unable to snag Winter Classic tickets or plain old couldn't afford them or their season-ticket-package price of additional admission, here's a chance to see the guys on outdoor ice for $6 frickin' bucks and the price of gas down to the ballpark:
I would happily be there freezing my butt off with you, but there is one thing more important to me than hockey, and I have a family member whose every-six-months skin cancer screening is on Wednesday, and we want to get our second, "Nothing, not even a suspicious freckle!" diagnosis for the first 12-month period in years. I only have one parent left, and I'll skip once-in-a-lifetime events to make sure I get to keep her around for as long as possible.
The two-week period of excitement on the Comerica Park ice includes an extensive list of hockey-related activities, including:
Dec. 27-28: Great Lakes Invitational
Dec. 27: Early game - Michigan State vs. Michigan Tech. Late game - Western Michigan vs. Michigan
Dec. 28: Early game - third place game. Late game - championship game
Dec. 29: Ontario Hockey League doubleheader
1st Game - Windsor Spitfires vs. Saginaw Spirit
2nd Game - London Knights vs. Plymouth Whalers
Dec. 30: American Hockey League - Toronto Marlies vs. Grand Rapids Griffins
Dec. 31: Alumni Showdown
Jan. 1: NHL's 2014 Winter Classic - Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Detroit Red Wings
Going so far as to have posted a "Winter Classic Fan Guide" PDF...
They've duly noted that the NHL will be holding a "Fan Zone" celebration outside Comerica Park from the 27th-31st...
And I will refer you to their story as WDIV is advertising its "Hockey in the D" app for smart phones.
Also via RedWingsFeed, 97.1 the Ticket's Stoney and Bill show is holding a contest offering tickets to the Winter Classic and all of the Comerica Park games.

About The Malik Report
The Malik Report is a destination for all things Red Wings-related. I offer biased, perhaps unprofessional-at-times and verbose coverage of my favorite team, their prospects and developmental affiliates. I've joined the Kukla's Korner family with five years of blogging under my belt, and I hope you'll find almost everything you need to follow your Red Wings at a place where all opinions are created equal and we're all friends, talking about hockey and the team we love to follow.
