Red Wings conclude 2013 draft by picking Hampus Melen 199th overall

The Red Wings have drafted Anthony Mantha, Zach Nastasiuk, Tyler Bertuzzi, Mattias Janmark-Nylen, David Pope, Mitchell Wheaton, and Marc McNulty, and as TSN's Darren Dreger and Pierre LeBrun suggested that Vincent Lecavalier will narrow down his list of teams to 4-5, will visit some of them, and is asking for $5 million a year for 5 years...

The Wings wrapped up the part of team building that they have a say in by picking Hampus Melen...

He's a 6'2," 148-pound forward who played for Tingsryds AIF J20 this past season.

RedWingsCentral on Melen:

7-199. RW Hampus Melen, 6-2, 165, Tingsryds AIF (Swe-J18), 24-18-22-40-59. Melen is a high-scoring Swedish J-18 Elit right-winger who piled up 40 points in 24 games but didn’t play on his country’s national junior teams. A classic late Hakan Andersson pick, Melen was not ranked by Central Scouting and is the type of prospect who will either be forgettable or one day emerge as a late-round steal.

Update: at the other end of the spectrum...

He’s only 33 and is still producing acceptable numbers.  Give the man some money!

George may have a better answer than me, but:
http://www.hockeysfuture.com/draft_faq_1/

“What’s a ‘re-entry player’?
This is a special category. It is a player who feels that the NHL club who drafted him is not to his liking and he refuses to sign. If he remains unsigned two years after he was drafted (only for major junior players) he may re-enter the draft again. But the player also runs the risk of being drafted much lower than before or being drafted by the same team that original chose him.”

Quine wasn’t signed within 2 years and was under 21. Those players re-enter the draft.

Bickell’s off the list, Chicago re-signed him for $4 million average x 4 years:

Alex Edler??
Tweet: Real_ESPNLeBrun Pierre LeBrun
Montreal, Detroit and Anaheim inquired on Alex Edler. Wings made an offer. Habs may circle back. But nothing close at this point

Sorry, saw Paul posted the tweets on Bickell earlier, although the story is above. Recalled this past Paul linked Edler post, not good?

Do we get a compensatory draft pick for him under the new CBA?

Hampus Melen is either the best or worst name in NHL history.

It could also be the team that chooses not to sign the player, which I think is closer to this case.
