Red Wings captain Henrik Zetterberg discusses his hockey beginnings while sweating, working out

I would've left this in the morning/afternoon entry, but this strikes me as meriting its own post because it answers a question: if you remember the first time that the Red Wings began to prepare for the 2012-2013 season, way back in late August and early September, Henrik Zetterberg spent one day shooting a commercial for Warrior Hockey as he worked out at a local gym.

Via RedWingsFeed, Stack Media posted a video clip of Zetterberg working out in Madison Heights and discussing his beginnings in hockey and his progression as a hockey player when he and we Wings fans thought that the announcement of his captaincy was imminent instead of subject to a four-month delay, and, mostly, there's a bunch of gratuitous footage of him working out and getting sweaty, which I assumed that those of you who don't mind admitting that you find Wings players attractive might enjoy watching.

So this is "fo da ladeez":

So this is “fo da ladeez”:

Thank you George…and no…I do not mind admitting that some players are attractive. I won’t hide that I do like men training as much as men would like to watch pretty women training.

This was a nice break from work smile

Hey, one of my bestest Wings fan pals is a gigantic fellow, a 6’4” lumberjack of a man who lives in Denver and is gay as gay can be. No big deal to me, not at all. If the ladies like ‘em, if the guys like ‘em, whatever…

I don’t think that admitting that one may be attracted to an athlete makes anyone a “puck bunny.” It makes us human beings with pulses. The smartest hockey fans I know and have been talking with for the longest time are women, and they like what they’re seeing. Ain’t nothin’ wrong with it.

I enjoy watching women’s hockey, and there are some very beautiful women who play that game.

The only time things get weird? When you’re dating someone who gushes over an athlete in such a way that you feel like you’ll never match up, and I was pretty convinced that the ex liked Steve Yzerman more than me. That was very strange.

All of that being gotten out of the way…

I am absolutely amazed at the amount of time, energy and effort players put into getting into and staying into shape. I don’t think that some of us understand that players have to engage in these kinds of workouts on almost-every-day bases in addition to practicing, traveling and their off-ice commitments, that they sit in meetings to go over special teams and scout opponents, that most of ‘em are banged-up in some way or form almost all the time and have to seek treatment for nagging injuries, etc.

It really is a full-time, 8-to-14-hour-a-day job for them most of the time. Sure, they get paid ridiculously disproportionate wages to the rest of society, but an “off day” does not consist of showing up for practice, getting dressed, skating for 90 minutes and then taking a shower and going home.
