Red Wings back-up goalie Jonas Gustavsson’s injury status slowly becoming clearer

I will grant you that the Leafs-Sabres stuff is far more intriguing as of 10:18 PM on a Sunday night, but I've been waiting for an explanation as to what the hell is going on with Red Wings Jonas Gustavsson since we received the, "Groins are two weeks from goalies" quip from Wings coach Mike Babcock and then conflicting reports from MLive's Ansar Khan and Fox Sports Detroit's TV broadcast.

Given that the Red Wings are highly, highly unlikely to practice tomorrow with the Grand Rapids Griffins opening their camp and having come off a pair of exhibition game losses, DetroitRedWings.com's Bill Roose offers what may be the most definitive update we'll hear until Tuesday or Wednesday--and he confirms Khan's updates regarding Daniel Alfredsson and Jakub Kindl:

Backup goalie Jonas Gustavsson is likely to miss the next two weeks after injuring his groin while trying to make a save during the second period of Saturday’s 2-0 to the Bruins. Gustavsson is considered to be day to day and his status for the first week of the season is unknown.

Forward Daniel Alfredsson (groin) and defenseman Jakub Kindl (hip flexor) are day to day, and will not dress for Sunday's home game against Chicago. Forwards Patrick Eaves (MCL, ankle sprain) and Helm (lower back, groin) are out indefinitely.

About The Malik Report

The Malik Report is a destination for all things Red Wings-related. I offer biased, perhaps unprofessional-at-times and verbose coverage of my favorite team, their prospects and developmental affiliates. I've joined the Kukla's Korner family with five years of blogging under my belt, and I hope you'll find almost everything you need to follow your Red Wings at a place where all opinions are created equal and we're all friends, talking about hockey and the team we love to follow.
