RED WINGS LAUNCH ONLINE AUCTION OF HOWARD EQUIPMENT AND PLAYER STICKS IN SUPPORT OF HOCKEY FIGHTS CANCER INITIATIVE
… Online Auction Runs From Nov. 18 – Dec. 1 to Benefit Michigan Charities …
DETROIT– The Detroit Red Wings launched an online auction this week at http://www.DetroitRedWings.com/HFCauction in support of the team’s Hockey Fights Cancer initiative. The auction will run from Nov. 18 through Dec. 1 online with the proceeds benefiting three Michigan cancer-related nonprofits.
Goaltender Jimmy Howard wore a one-of-a-kind goalie mask along with pink-and-white equipment, including pads, catching glove and blocker, on Breast Cancer Awareness Night (Oct. 12) and Hockey Fights Cancer Night (Oct. 26). His goalie equipment will be auctioned off separately with all the proceeds benefiting two Metro Detroit cancer centers (Karmanos Cancer Institute and St. John Providence Health System) to help uninsured and underinsured women with the cost of diagnostic mammograms and expenses associated with breast cancer treatment.
The entire team used hockey sticks wrapped in lavender tape during pregame warm-ups on Oct. 26 for Hockey Fights Cancer Night. A small number of players’ sticks were donated to the NHL for its league-wide fundraising initiative, but the majority of the sticks are being auctioned off online to raise funds for Van Andel Institute’s cancer research efforts.
Prior to the start of this online auction, the Red Wings have raised more than $51,000 through the team’s 2013 Hockey Fights Cancer initiative, including more than $40,000 on Breast Cancer Awareness Night through a variety of fundraising activities, including a silent auction, mystery puck draw, 50/50 raffle and a special sale of fleece blankets.

The Malik Report is a destination for all things Red Wings-related. I offer biased, perhaps unprofessional-at-times and verbose coverage of my favorite team, their prospects and developmental affiliates. I've joined the Kukla's Korner family with five years of blogging under my belt, and I hope you'll find almost everything you need to follow your Red Wings at a place where all opinions are created equal and we're all friends, talking about hockey and the team we love to follow.
