Red Wings ask fans to donate school supplies on Monday, April 1st

Detroit, MI… The Detroit Red Wings will host the second annual School Supply Collection presented by PNC Bank to provide children in low-income households with the necessary supplies to learn and participate in their classrooms. The school supply collection will take place during the team’s home game on Monday, April 1, when the Wings take on the Colorado Avalanche at 7:30 p.m. (FOX Sports Detroit and AM 1270).

All donations will benefit Operation: Kid Equip, which has the capacity to serve 178,000 Metro Detroit students who are currently living in poverty. Operation: Kid Equip provides free school supplies, books, hygiene and food items for local children in need. Each donation will assist in giving Metro Detroit students the opportunity to grow, learn and make their mark on the world.

Fans are encouraged to bring new school supplies and books to Monday’s game. The items most in need are pencils, markers, crayons and glue sticks. Volunteers from PNC Bank and Operation: Kid Equip will be at each entrance of Joe Louis Arena when the doors open at 6:00 p.m. to collect donations.

Fans who donate school supplies and books or make monetary donations will be entered to win an autographed Damien Brunner puck and photo on Monday. Fans must be present to win.

About Operation: Kid Equip

Operation: Kid Equip helps at-risk students in the tri-county area by providing free school supplies, books, hygiene, clothing and food items to help them get through the school day. Operation: Kid Equip’s vision is a community where every child’s basic school day needs are met. To effect long-term community improvement, Operation: Kid Equip also works to increase awareness of the issues facing school-aged children to empower them to succeed in school and in life.
