Quickie Red Wings prospect news: Griffins win, Coreau valiant in Walleye loss, Mantha at 111 points

Very briefly, as I was and am ill, I missed these last night, and here's your Red Wings prospect news for the day:

Minus one Calle Jarnkrok, the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins defeated the Chicago Wolves 4-2 last night. The Griffins' website (with video and a photo gallery) and the Grand Rapids Press's Peter J. Wallner recap the game;

In the ECHL, Jared Coreau stopped 41 of 43 shots, but his Toledo Walleye still dropped a 2-0 decision to the South Carolina Stingrays.  The Walleye's website and the Toledo Blade's Rachel Lenzi recap the game;

In the QMJHL, Phillipe Hudon didn't register a point in the Victoriaville Cougars' 4-3 OT loss to Rimouski;

Anthony Mantha scored a goal in the Val-d'Or Foreurs' 4-2 win over Rouyn-Noranda (that's 53 goals, 58 assists and 111 points for Mantha in only 53 games played);

In the OHL, Andreas Athanasiou was held off the scoresheet as his Barrie Colts lost 4-2 to Sudbury;

In the WHL, neither Marek Tvrdon nor Mitchell Wheaton posted a point in their Kelowna Rockets' 3-1 win over Spokane;

In BCHL playoff hockey, David Pope didn't register a point as his West Kelowna Warriors lost 4-1 to Vernon, tying the teams' first-round series at 1 game apiece;

And today, in the Swedish SHL: Mattias Janmark didn't register a point but played 20:54 in AIK Stockholm's 3-2 loss to Vaxjo. AIK will be playing in the Kvalserien soon, attempting to defend their place in the Swedish SHL against Allsvenskan team Djurgardens IF;

And Mattias Backman didn't register a point but played 18:39 in Linkopings HC's 3-2 loss to Brynas IF.

Richard Nedomlel is having a great season in Toledo, he has the size and grit the Wings are missing on their blueline.  He could be their next Jiri Fischer.

The Wings have definitely been missing that aspect. I’m rooting for the guy.

Nik jersey retirement montage playing in the background, and now a Jiri mention?  You really know how to make a grown man cry.

About The Malik Report

The Malik Report is a destination for all things Red Wings-related. I offer biased, perhaps unprofessional-at-times and verbose coverage of my favorite team, their prospects and developmental affiliates. I've joined the Kukla's Korner family with five years of blogging under my belt, and I hope you'll find almost everything you need to follow your Red Wings at a place where all opinions are created equal and we're all friends, talking about hockey and the team we love to follow.
