Quick Recap - Wings/Blue Jackets

Final score: 2-1 in favor of Columbus in a shootout.

Both Howard and Bobrovsky were great in goal tonight and the OT was fun to watch.

The game came down to whoever gets to 2 goals first and it was the Blue Jackets who did in the 9th round of the shootout.

Regulation goals are below along with the 2 on 0 in OT and I will have a full recap in the morning.

In the meantime, feel free to discuss.

2 on Bob in OT

how can they have scored 19 in the last 4 games on Bobrovski ??

Best goalie by far..

and Howard was bad..(kidding)

Tough one…we played tough but the Jackets have superman in goal. The Jackets played a very intense game too…

Z is not looking good recently…

The effort was all right..let’s move on…

Dear players. You have NO EXCUSE tonight. NONE! You should all be ashamed of yourselves.

well yeah ...Blashill said we would win this one…

Does he means he gets fired ??

Thinking about that it wasnt a clever statement to make. By doing so Blashill put all the pressure on the players, and you know they don’t like to have pressure. The way Z played tonight is like he was tuning his coach out.

And by the way one Z shift last at least 3 minutes, in the middle of the second. Their was 2 lines change while he was on the ice, but he never left !

Is this thinking about the team or himself first ?

Can someone please ask Blabhill why Frk played just 7 minutes out of a 6 minute game tonight?

Like the guy gets 4 points in his first 4 games…and then gets rewarded with the next 10 games playing with 4th line trash. Big surprise that he produced nothing for 10 games.

Then suddenly the blender finds him playing alongside some skill. He delivers with 3 goals and 1 assist in 3 games. Nice work Frk!

Uh, not so fast. Tonight you will play 7 minutes with Scott Wilson and Luke Witkowski. Like what a complete waste. Meanwhile,Helm played 19 minutes, GlenDENING played over 17 minutes, Zetterberg played over 21 even-strength minutes - that’s a smart strategy.

But anyway, as Blashill declared, there were NO EXCUSES for losing tonight. So suck it up Frk!

ILH said this was a great move by Blashill.

I merely asked why he thought that way. I wrote this afternoon that it was asinine, for the reasons you just mentioned.

ILH had no response…

Ok, so if Z is tuning the coach out, and the swedish mafia has rule over him, then how long until he is fired because of one innocuous statement he made in the pregame?

lol

Not that there were any power plays, in which to at least come out with the second PP unit,
but it really doesn’t make much sense that Frk would play even less than Wilson and Witkowski.

When a goalie like Bobrovski is on his game, it doesn’t hurt to try and get your hardest to stop/rebound control shooter some looks.

Did look like Z played too much and Helm and Glendening as well.
Not sure who else would play those guys 19+ and 17+ minutes.

Yeah - and a couple people (myself included) were happy that the TOI had resembled more of a ‘kid’ theme.

Also, we spent nearly all of the first 3 minutes of the OT in our defensive zone. We started Nielsen/Helm (defensive matchup) and the Mantha/AA. Then Z and Nyq?

Not sure on that last one. But that was so frustrating to watch.

Actually, Howard was great. Bobrovsky was insanely great.

The only fault I’d lay at the feet of the Wings is the way they kept attacking him straight on, especially in the shootout.

The guy is bigger than the fricking net. The only way to beat him is the way they scored their goal – by moving the puck from side to side. Any “monster” goalie’s weakness, even the great ones, is making him move from one side of the net to the other. I would think a competent coach would have demanded that his guys to do that.

...but it really doesn’t make much sense that Frk would play even less than Wilson and Witkowski.

Frk has been an absolute revelation this year. He’s hard on the forecheck. He actualy hits people. And he’s probably the best tape-to-tape passer on the team. So there’s really no rational reason for Blashill to sit him for nearly 43 minutes in a tight game.

But, then, we don’t have a rational head coach. Vegas has a rational head coach. That’s why their cobbled-together team has three more points than the Wings in two fewer games.

Chris I. could have had that guy this summer, but apparently he was out checking to make sure all of the LCA bars had big screen TVs that carried the Wings games so folks could sit there in comfort instead of plunking their butts down in the seats they paid for.

From top to bottom, this whole organization has taken a giant header into the crapper ever since Mr. I became too ill to run it all himself. And we’re the ones who are (literally and figuratively) paying the price for that.

It was a 65-minute game. Frk sat for almost 58 minutes. No excuses though!

I still hate shootouts and think they are a joke and don’t belong in the NHL but that one last night was a rare exception. That Bob save was sick. Mick loved it too.

Frk must be in blash’s doghouse, why I don’t know. When you give a defenseman like errorson as much ice time as Werenski and Jones logged last night you know we have a bench boss that is not committed to winning.

Pittsburgh wants a veteran backup in net since Niemi crapped out of town so perhaps we can trade for Tinky Winky back or Schultz perhaps a slightly better deal haha.

Gallant I wish was our bench boss and all I also think Nill would of been the better GM choice.

Vegas has a rugged team but Fleury is out injured. Imagine if he was healthy how good they would be.
Season of watching our young players improve and hoping to see some veterans traded out for rebuild mode.

Montreal is down Price and Montoya…

Think Montreal would want another 4 mil in goalie cap hit? raspberry

The game was frustrating to watch. That’s really the long and short of it.

At some moments, we looked damn good. At others, we looked like the worst team in the league. After one of those “best team” sequences, which resulted in the tally that tied it up, we spent the rest of the third period looking all kinds of awful. To add insult to injury, we then spent the first three minutes of OT waiting for the Jackets to score on us.  Granted, the final two minutes of OT was pretty damn exciting (if not also heartbreaking), it doesn’t make up for an overall poor performance by the team.

As others have pointed out, Frk didn’t play much at all tonight, and that doesn’t exactly look promising. Frk isn’t part of our problem, and playing him for only seven minutes certainly did nothing to ensure we could win the game.

I love my team, but I disagree with the way its being run.

So is Green still increasing his trade value? Or regressing towards what he’s been for the last 7 years? Haha. Hilarious. Sell high. Buy low. Not rocket surgery.

—Right now they are playing Lindgren and are very happy with the result. I think right now Montreal is already trap with Price’s contract.

Lindgren has been amazing in his last 5 outings. Montoya is going to be waive when Price returns….and Montréal will resume losing !

frk only 7 minutes. Doesnt it remind you what happened to AA or Mantha in their first season ?

Same thing

...according to Blashill you need to suffer in your first season if you want to become…what Blashill wants you to become !

It’s been what, two games? Calm your t*ts.

The level of arrogance of some people is just obnoxious.
