Questions For Khan

Ansar Khan of Mlive answered some questions from the fans and the first question was what can the Wings do to get cap compiant.

A: They’re going to see what unfolds in training camp and the preseason before making any move. They anticipate injured players (Tomas Tatar, Luke Glendening, Niklas Kronwall) being ready to go at the start of the season but won’t know for sure until they get rolling. Plus, there’s always the possibility of injury in camp and the preseason.

They’ll be only slightly over the cap after Andreas Athanasiou signs and Johan Franzen is placed on LTIR, if everyone is healthy. Rather than trade a regular in the lineup like Helm, Sheahan or Green, I think they’d waive someone.

Regardless, they’re not going to move Green unless they’re out of the playoff picture at the trade deadline. He’s their only offensive threat on the blue line and would leave a significant void on an already weak power play.
Helm, with four years and $14.75 million remaining on his contract, and given his injury issues, would be difficult to move unless the team retains some salary. I doubt they want to add more dead cap space in addition to what Stephen Weiss is costing them.

I agree that Sheahan is probably worth more to them – especially if he can return to form – than what they could get for him in a trade.

Sheahan is probably worth more to the Wings than he would net in any trade.

I doubt he is or will be worth anything but a 4th liner   but Blash will put him on the 3rd line and some time in the top 6.  His worth, he hasn’t got a stupid contract, yet.

They have some defensemen in the system who’ll be knocking on the door in the next couple of years in Robbie Russo

Like AA , Russo is still unsigned.  See ya Russo

Although Helm is plagued with injuries he is also our go to guy for PKs, and Imo he does well at that, probably best on team. I would unload Ericsson to make room for Sproul.

To get rid of any bad contract we have to give an assett as well or pick.  E isnt a modern style dman and his mobility is greatly hindered.

Being as we suck we def dont want to move picks and we sony have assetts like Teroveinen people want.

Were stuck E for sure.  Helm is marketable for maybe some salary retention as well as Abby.

Dear Ansar. Can you ask Kenny why his strategy to become cap compliant essentially boils down to…we kinda hope someone gets injured during the pre-season and even then we’ll probably just carry 22 players? Please ask why TRADING is not viewed as a potential remedy?

If the response is because trades are hard, then that’s opening the door to a follow up question of…is that because our roster has the most NTCs in the NHL? Why is that? Why do you keep handing these out? Do you feel players have given you discounts in return for these NTCs? Like did Abby and Helm and Dekeyser sign at a discount?

Eventually, Ericsson is going to need hip surgery.
Depending on how much damage they find, he could be out 4 to 6 months.
I’d tell him to get it done now and put his $4.25 mil on LTIR.

I’d also remind him ... the older he gets the slower he’ll heal so if he gets it done now his body would appreciate it as opposed to waiting until his playing days are over.

They already suggested that Ericsson get surgery. But he said he didn’t want to. Maybe he’s scared of hospitals, or maybe the inmates are running the assylum?
