Questions For Ansar Khan

Ansar Khan of Mlive is the answer man today...

Q: Do you think they would waive Jonathan Ericsson over Ryan Sproul if they have to waive a player as (general manager Ken) Holland has said they will only carry seven defensemen?

A: No. I think they would waive Sproul before Ericsson, even if it means losing a young defenseman for nothing. You can make a case for waiving Ericsson instead because it’s highly unlikely any team would claim him with three years remaining at a $4.25 million cap hit. If he was taken it would clear up significant cap space.

But as much as Ericsson has struggled and drawn the wrath of fans, the organization believes he is better than many make him out to be. They have a track record for favoring veterans over inexperienced players. They also have concerns about Sproul's defensive play. Waiving Ericsson would trim only $1.025 million in cap space, which still might be enough to solve their issue.

Q: The Wings should play (Xavier) Ouellet, create openings for Sproul, (Robbie) Russo, forwards (Tyler) Bertuzzi and (Evgeny) Svechnikov, (Luke Witkowski on defense). (Trevor) Daley, another 34-year-old, added, so it would appear Ericsson should be the odd-man out. Or put (Niklas) Kronwall on LTIR. The Wings “best options” not getting the job done, so how can they bust the clog on defense? And why do the Wings insist their development players must be better than guys on the downward slope, now overpriced? The cap imposes value judgments, and the Wings are not getting adequate value for the cap squeeze they are in.

Another fluff piece from MLIVE. I like the part about maybe Ouellet and Sproul can be carried as 7th and 8th d-men, you know, if they have room for that. Great analysis MLIVE. Way to really analyze the cap and roster situation.

And what’s with this obsession with Witkowski. He’s a 27-year old journeyman that has accomplished virtually nothing at the NHL level, and not that impressive at the AHL level either. So why couldn’t McIlrath have a great camp and win a job? Oh wait, Witkowski will probably play forward because we have a big clogged toilet on defense. And what if Frk or Svech or even some random guy like Sadowy have a great camp and outperform Witkowski? Oh well, they play different roles. We don’t want Frk or Svech playing 8 minutes on the 4th line. The end. No mention of how they could play on a 2nd or 3rd line and bump a guy like Abby or Helm or Sheahan to the 4th line. That makes too much sense. Exactly the same argument last year with Mantha versus Miller or Ott. They aren’t competing for the same job. Sigh.

It’s pretty simple.  Ken Holland needs warm bodies who can block the paths of prospects trying to break into the NHL, and he struck gold because Luke Witkowski can block the path of a forward OR a defenseman.

Um, no. No he’s not. And anyone with eyes who’s not in the Wings “brain trust” knows he’s not.

...they returned with largely the same team, in the hopes that a majority of the roster will “bounce back.” ... They believe there’s a better chance that many of their underperforming players will rebound than there is of prospects stepping in and out-performing veterans.

Well, I guess we’ll never know will we? Oh, they’ll bring all of the young prospects to camp and they’ll put on a show of letting them try to “steal someone’s job.” But at the end of camp, we all know that the “tie goes to the overpriced, underperforming vet” so they can tout the myth that they’re “in the hunt” for a playoff spot.

It’s the same damn thing every year, and it’s incredibly frustrating. All we can do is shake our heads in disbelief and hope that Holland and Balshill get the ax as soon as possible. Of course, we wish that every year as well.

I like Ansar, but I cannot believe they reporters get paid to produce such repetitive garbage. It’s the same shit recycled over and over and over and over. I think the term ad nauseam comes to mind.

I would like see one of these beat reporters have some balls to the ask the hard questions to Kenny the Great. I understand this article in particular is a fan based Q&A, but these interviews of late be it print and/or tv and radio of Kenny is a tremendous puke on true journalism. No one asks him anything of substance. What a crock.

Anyway Happy Friday all.

But it’s even worse than that. When a young player clearly outperforms a veteran, we hear the excuse making go into overdrive. Last year…

Yeah Bertuzzi looked real good. We know he had 4 points in 5 games. But in some of those preseason games he was playing against other AHL players. A sign of a true professional is to perform against NHL competition. So we’re going to send him back to Grand Rapids. But we’re really excited about him and he might get called up. Meanwhile, the OMG line, who happened to rack up some points against AHL competition and then took off their gloves to high-five each other all made the NHL roster. Big surprise.

Yeah we know Mantha had 3 goals in 5 games. But it’s a process. He can’t play 6 minutes on the 4th line. So he has to beat out guys like Nyquist and Tatar and Abdelkader for a top scoring role. But we gave him some things to work on with coach Nelson down in the AHL.

Go back further and we heard the same stupidity with Jensen and Ouellet losing spots to Kindl.

Just stop lying to your fanbase. We’re not idiots. So stop lying. Meanwhile, teams like Pittsburgh have no trouble letting kids like Sheary and Guentzel win jobs. Notice Pittsburgh just let 2-time Cup champ Matt Cullen walk away. Thanks Matt. But you are too old. We don’t need you anymore. We want to keep a spot open for the next kid. But we sign Miller and Cleary until they die.

damn skippy.

Any more, the msm is merely an extension of the propaganda wing of the US based sport leagues. They think there’s too much money to miss out on to not be PR mouthpieces rather than actual journalists and risk getting frozen out.

This.

So my next question is why people are complaining (here, especially) about it. May as well just copy and paste the whining and crying from the last HSJ/Khan article. lol.

Exactly.  Thats honestly my problem.  EVWRYONE can see the Wings issues excwpt the brass, which I doubt.  The justifying the cronyism with lie after lie gets ooooooold.

Well, because theyre a part of this team and how it will perform and theres no games being played soooooooo

Were also in a cap crunch with a short roster.

What else are we supposed to talk about.  Cant discount the valid poinys made after.

Who knows maybe someone will finally decide these guys dont know what their doing as far as competing

True, but since they face the players, coaches, and Ken Holland on a daily basis it seems like they are walking on egg shells. They figure if the tick some of them off, they will lose interviews.  tongue laugh
