Prospect news: Walleye win a wild one over Kalmazoo; Smith scores, Fulcher wins

Of prospect-related note:

In the ECHL, the Toledo Walleye won a wild one, taking a 5-4 decision over the Kalamazoo K-Wings. Simon Denis, Christian Hillbrich, Luke Esposito, Erik Bradford and Kevin Tansey scored goals and Dylan Sadowy had 2 assists.

(Toledo, OH) - The Walleye defeated the Wings 5-4 Sunday evening. Pat Nagle stopped 22 of 26 shots and is now 14-2-2 on the season. Toledo is 17-7-2-1 on the season and 9-3-0 at home.

Kalamazoo struck first to take a 1-0 lead at 1:46 of the first period. Simon Denis tied the game 1-1 at 3:56 of the first.

Kalamazoo took a 2-1 lead on a power play goal at 7:20 of the second period. Christian Hilbrich tied the game 2-2 with a power play goal at 8:43 of the second. Luke Esposito scored his first of the year to give the Walleye a 3-2 lead at 11:51 of the second.

The Walleye extended their lead 4-2 with a goal by Erik Bradford 16 seconds into the third period. Kalamazoo pulled within a goal to make it a 4-3 Walleye lead 49 seconds into the third. Kalamazoo tied the game 4-4 at 4:52 of the third. Kevin Tansey gave the Walleye a 5-4 lead at 14:12 of the third.

  • The Walleye are on the road Friday for a 7:00 p.m. puck drop against Kalamazoo.
  • Nagle stopped 22 of 26 shots and is now 14-2-2 on the season.
  • Shane Berschbach has a point in his past three games.
  • Simon Denis has five points in his past three games.
  • Erik Bradford has at least one point in his past four games.
  • Christian Hilbrich has at least one point in three straight games.
  • Luke Esposito was back with the Walleye today after being called up to the AHL and scored his first goal of the season.
  • The Walleye are 46-42-10 all-time against Kalamazoo.


Elsewhere, in the OHL, Givani Smith had a goal on 5 shots, finishing at -1 in the Guelph Storm's 6-1 loss to Oshawa;

Kaden Fulcher stopped 20 of 22 shots and Reilly Webb finished at -1 with 8 penalty minutes as the Hamilton Bulldogs won 5-2 over the Peterborough Petes. Zach Gallant took 2 shots and won 14 of 21 faceoffs for Peterbourgh, and Cole Fraser didn't play for the Petes;

And in the WHL, Dennis Cholowski took 1 shot and a penalty in the Prince George Cougars' 2-0 loss to Vancouver.
